From Sun Dress to Skirt

Sun dress turned into a skirt.

I purchased this at Target and have wore it as a dress, but decided I would like it better as a skirt.

First I pinned the front and back together through the draw string waist, to make sure when making my cut all the layers stayed in place.

Got out my handy dandy rotary cutter and cut 1″ above the draw string.

Serged along the cut line, which is now the waist of the skirt.  This is all the finishing I did, no turning under and hemming at the waist.  Just leave it as a paper bag top.

Just tighten the draw sting to your waist size.
This took about 10 minutes of time and I will get more use out of it as a skirt.

Good idea! The pattern is so fresh and summery, it will look great with a matching tank. I’m visiting you from sew happy geek, hope you visit me too!

Yet again, I love what you’ve done. Can’t wait to see you in it on WIWW soon. I don’t keep a lot of things I don’t wear, but i see why it’s a great idea now!

Love this! I have a couple of sundresses that would make fantastic skirts. You can probably use the leftover top fabric to make some cute accessories, too. Maybe some rosette headbands? You’ve got my wheels turning. Thanks for sharing.

I’m hosting my monthly Before Blogging Throwback Thursdays linkup party and would love for you to share a project you did or made or a thrifty find you’re proud of from before blogging. Can’t wait to see what you bring.
