Natural Element Christmas Decor
I’m not sure how it happened but I have skipped right over Thanksgiving and am focusing my decor on Winter and natural element Christmas decor. The first space on my list to decorate was the side porch where our family enters the house. I knew I didn’t want to spend any money, and with the horrible winds we are having I didn’t want something of value blowing away so I decided to take a walk around our property and load up my bag with natural decor elements.
Here’s what I found pine branches, wild rose hips, pine cones, and red twigs. I carried my grocery bag and garden nippers and gave whatever struck my fancy a trim on the way by, carried it up on the porch and started stuffing into my galvanized sap bucket. I had no method for loading the bucket, I just stuffed it full until everything was used up in my bag.
I ran into the house and grabbed a gingham ribbon and called it good. I love to created things that involve spending no money, and I find I enjoy them all the more knowing I didn’t break the bank to decorate. I am going to follow this theme all through winter and Christmas, decorating naturally with little to no money spent. I would rather spend what I do have on my family not my decor. So continue to stop by to see what other things I come up with on the cheap.

I have been using natural elements for winter decoration for quite a few years now … long before it was all sold at the home improvement stores for lots of money. I love walking around the garden and snipping here and there for an arrangement. And when I can’t find enough a stop by the side of the roads to snip some red branches, some green branches that don’t grow in the garden or some wild feathers from the wild grasses is very rewarding.
Linda, I do the same thing, I always have nippers in my purse and you just never know when I will pull over and clip something growing in the ditch. My family just rolls their eyes at me. LOL

How lovely! I’m going to follow your cue and see what I can find. Just picture me teetering precariously along the edge of the six lane highway to prune some nandina berries, compliments of the great state of Texas 🙂 Not quite like a soothing stroll in the woods haha, but free! Andrea, OMG don’t get hit trying to gather free berries, that would be horrible. I am luck to only have dirt lane roads where I live with little to no traffic.

Starting my holiday decorating today, got the cinnamon applesauce ornaments drying in the oven. Getting ready to gather some pine branches to swap out with the pumpkins and gourds. It’ll put the pumpkins and gourds out for the deer (no waste, right). HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! 🙂
Terri, I haven’t made those ornaments in years. I love the smell of them and they are so easy. I may have to make some now 🙂 I gathered pine branches today and hubby to a bobcat bucket load of pumpkins to into the weeds to feed the deer too, we also feed them to the pigs, they think there candy. It was 50 here and raining so I worked outside all day getting things around. Never a dull moment around here.
