Wild Phlox
It’s that time of year again where I am able to have fresh cut FREE, roadside flowers. A couple of years ago I did a weekly series on all the wildflowers in Michigan so I thought I would do it again this year for any new readers.
I love Michigan with all it’s variety of wildflowers. I have a fresh new bouquet of something different every week. I carry garden nippers in my purse and when I see something I like I just hop out of my Jeep and start cutting. My hubby is always rolling his eyes you would think by now he would be used to it. Why shouldn’t I take advantage of it. Mother nature has so kindly seeded them for just this purpose; to bring me happiness and joy, so I think.
Phlox don’t last long once tthey’re cut the tiny purple petals start falling off in about 3 days, but there stunning for those few days. Our cat has already discovered them and has helped in the petal shedding. She rubs against it so the arrangement isn’t pretty for long but I don’t have the heart to shoo her away. The daisies are also blooming right now and I will be back to show you those here soon. Do you have wildflowers in bloom in the state you live in?
So pretty, Dawn! I have always loved phlox. It’s wonderful to be able to have fresh flowers in the house.
JoAnne, I agree fresh flowers just make a place feel alive and for free you can’t go wrong 🙂
Yes, we have some lovely wildflowers around here in Western WA. My soon-to-be daughter-in-law cut foxgloves and daisies from the roadsides for a recent party. Free flowers and just beautiful!
Barbara I had foxglove in my garden one year but it didn’t do well. I wish it grew wild around here. What a wonderful way to get flowers for a party 🙂

Hi Dawndie! Oh, the phlox is so pretty! I don’t blame you one bit for bringing in a little joy each week. Sure would make me happy! I can just see your little kitty enjoying them too! I’ve forgotten to tell you how cute your FB picture is with your longer hair! 🙂

I love wild phlox and have some growing in the garden. They are mixed in with the poppies and look very pretty together. I’m one that is always stopping to get things from the ditches and fields. BTW … a couple of weeks ago I saw some wild asparagus growing in a ditch … it had gone to seed. We are still getting fresh asparagus from the farmer down the road from us.
Linda, phlox and poppies would be a beautiful color combination together. You will have to remember where you spotted the wild asparagus for next year and start looking for a little sooner:) So glad you discovered it.

I do the same thing! Why not? I only take a little… and it’s in a bare field. So, I enjoy the heck out of them, and they are affordable. lol!! All my Queen Anne’s Lace was free. It grows like crazy here!! Your Phlox is beautiful.
