Watercolor Tie Dye Farmers Market Bag

It’s farmers market time in my neck of the woods. The one in our village just opened in June and last week was the first time I shopped it. I made these fun Watercolor Tie Dye farmers market bags for me and my mom to use and load up with fresh produce for the week. As you know she’s home for the summer so every Thursday afternoon we grab our bags and head to the market together. I always like to carry something that’s reusable, and these canvas bags are sturdy and hold everything I need in one trip to the farmers market.
Last week I purchased the best Amish butter, it was delicious and my Mom got some homemade blueberry cheesecake bread. It’s hard to go and not come home with a bag full of homemade breads, cheeses, and maple syrup. I try and just get fruit and veggies but sometimes a treat hops into my gab.
By the way, we may as well be fashionable too, right? I thought my mom would enjoy a new bag and I’m loving mine too. We look like twins while we shop. When deciding on a design for the bag I picked something easy, a carrot. I’m no artist so a simple carrot worked out perfectly. If you can draw a triangle, you can draw a carrot. But if you’d rather a pattern you can find a download for that below. I had such fun one afternoon creating these for both of us. First I made mine and texted a picture to my Mom, of course she loved it so I asked if she would like one. I had one made and ready for her when she returned from Florida. She said she’s already used it for taking things to a baseball game. Really any pattern would be cute and painting them like a watercolor is fun and easy (you don’t even have to be an painter to do this technique).
Here’s what I did:
1. Wash, dry, and press your garment. (Follow the directions on the Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit).
2. Print off the pattern (link below) or come up with your own.
3. Trace pattern onto your bag with a pencil.
4. Outline with a black Tulip Fabric Marker.
5. Place cardboard under your project to avoid any bleed through before working with the dye.
6. Mix Dye according to the package directions.
7. Paint with orange dye. The paint will bleed depending on the material you are using, so stay inside the lines (just like coloring) and allow it to bleed towards the line.
8. Add Yellow Dye to make the carrot have a little color variation.
9. Finish coloring in your “Farm Fresh” with the Black Tulip Fabric Marker. (Rinse project according to the directions on the packaging).
Head to the farmers market, fill it up, and show it off!

Lynne, I found it at Hobby Lobby and it was only $3.99, it’s very big and sturdy too, I couldn’t believe the price. I want to pick up more and use them as grocery bags.
