Winter Star Quilt Block Fabric

Winter Star Quilt Block | Farm Girl Vintage | CreativeCainCabin.comI go in spurts with what creative things I like to do and right now I’m into fabric and quilting. I’ve been in a somber mood lately and like the isolation of cutting, piecing, and sewing in silence. After getting my Farm Girl Vintage book in the mail I just can’t get sewing out of my mind so I may as well give in. I picked the Winter Star quilt square to work on first. I had a hard time deciding, so I picked something that looked pretty neutral and would fit into any design. I also thought it would work well with the fabric variety I had in my collection.

Winter Star Quilt Block | Farm Girl Vintage | CreativeCainCabin.comMy intentions are to make quilt squares and use them as pot holders. I don’t have the time to make a full size quilt nor do I want a big project hanging over my head that needs to be completed, so I’ll indulge my craving and make something more doable for now. I needed 5 fabric choices for the block, so here’s the combination I picked. I’ll be back soon to show you how I created a laptop quilt square design board and the finished product. Tell me about what projects you’re working on right now.

    1. Rita, of course I already washed and cut off the end that tells the details of the fabric, but I do know where I purchased it. If you want I can pick up the yardage you would like and drop it in the mail to you. I’m so happy to hear you are on the upswing from the depression. Im not sure why life has to be so difficult sometimes.

  6. I love making quilts and just need to MAKE the time to work on one or two. I have a couple of young ladies who are expecting so I need to get busy.

    1. Carol, I love to make a strip quilt using the quilt as you go method as shower gifts. You can do it in a couple of hours and I love that as you sew the quilting is done in the same step. Here’s the one I did if you want to see it. “Quilt As You Go”

  7. Thank goodness we have our creativity to fall back on when life tries to run us over. I know the feeling, I just had to make the leap and quit a very good paying job because it was just too much. I told my husband I would rather be ‘poor’ than miserable. (being a bit dramatic there but he understood) Thankfully the company understood too and said whenever I was ready to return they would welcome me back with open arms.
I love small projects that you get a since of accomplishment from, I crochet granny squares for the same reason. We use them for coasters, I can sew a few together and make a pillow or baby snuggly or I can tuck them away for when I want to make something else from them. I have seen some very cute mandalas I would like to try and I have wanted to try that Quilt as You go method for baby quilts. I will hop on over to that page and check it out.

    1. Pam yes amen to small projects to get us through. I love to crochet granny squares, I used to be able to do them in my sleep but haven’t done if for about 2 years. Thanks for the reminder. You will love how fast the quilt as you go method is.

  8. I think you have some great blocks, Dawn. But I also think it must be time-consuming to finish the project for me. I have never had something like this before.
