Kitchen Ideas For A New Home Build | Giveaway

For those of you who don’t know, we are selling off our homes and properties and plan on building again. I actually stay awake at night planning the new house in my head. I know when I designed the log home I spent countless hours drawing the plans (on the computer), moving walls, redesigning areas trying to get it all right with the space I had to work with. I feel that will be more of a challenge this time since we are building a home 1/3 the size of the one we currently live in.

For me the kitchen is the hub of our home, and it’s a spot I want to get right. I’m still in love with our current kitchen so I do believe I will use several of the same features again. I think this time I’ll go with all white GE Appliances, which have been in American homes since 1905.

GE Appliances is a company that understands that the kitchen is at the heart of family life at home – it’s a place where each family, with their unique histories and cultures, gathers to live, cook, and celebrate together. And that’s why I spend so much time thinking about my new kitchen!
I will also have white cupboards again, and I like how seamless the white appliances feel in the space. Right now I have stainless, which I love, but I’m ready for a change.

White Kitchen | Farmhouse Style | Exposed Beam Ceiling | Black and White Checked Floor | White Appliances | GE Appliances | #OurAmericanKitchen | #ad | CreativeCainCabin.comI considered some open shelves, but I wonder how easy they are to maintain? Do they always look cluttered, and will I constantly have to dust them? I hate to dust, but do feel they’d be a pretty area for displaying bright colorful dishes. Chime in and tell me what you think, if you have open shelving is it a love or hate thing with you?

I adore our concrete now, and would make that choice all over again, but I’d like the warm feel the wood butcher block has to it. Luckily, hubby can make both styles for me, and he doesn’t care about kitchen design so I can go with what I want. Actually, all he cares about are the meals that come out of the kitchen. If I keep him fed he’s happy, I need to introduce him to Maryann, the Cookie Lady of Rome, NY.
Maryann is featured as part of a documentary series from GE Appliances called Our American Kitchen. The series explores how the kitchen plays a special role in American life by featuring a diverse group of GE appliance owners and their experiences in the kitchen. Maryann has created 34 cookie recipes and has used her love of baking to connect with her community. I wouldn’t mind if she delivered her famous chocolate chip cookies to my kitchen!

White Kitchen | Farmhouse Style | Exposed Beam Ceiling | Black and White Checked Floor | White Appliances | GE Appliances | #OurAmericanKitchen | #ad | CreativeCainCabin.comThere have been so many times I could’ve used double ovens, but I’m not sure with downsizing if it’s a smart move. For all these years I’ve made one oven work for me, do I really need two? I know I’d never give up a 6 burner stove, mine has the griddle or a huge burner in the center now and I love that concept. The big burner in the middle comes in handy when it’s canning time.
White Kitchen | Farmhouse Style | Exposed Beam Ceiling | Black and White Checked Floor | White Appliances | GE Appliances | #OurAmericanKitchen | #ad | CreativeCainCabin.comMy next debate is whether to have an island with seating, and no dining room or keep my farmhouse table and create an eat-in kitchen with no island. I think that’s going to be my hardest decision to make. We never use the dining room in our current house, but I’m in love with my farmhouse table and would never give it up.
White Kitchen | Farmhouse Style | Exposed Beam Ceiling | Black and White Checked Floor | White Appliances | GE Appliances | #OurAmericanKitchen | #ad | CreativeCainCabin.comMaybe I could use the farmhouse table in the middle of the kitchen as my island, and I wouldn’t have to decide then. There may be such a thing as leg extensions out there and that would bring the island height up and I could continue to use bar stools as seating. Hmmm, so many decisions to make and since this will be our last build I don’t want to settle for something I don’t care for.

The one I have now is the perfect size for hubby and I, and I will definitely be incorporating one into the new house build. I can see several hours of lost sleep again, while I ponder over my choices. What do you think, are there any kitchen features you can’t live without?

  1. For me the kitchen is where good food is made and family to eat it with.

  2. Personally I would trade my right arm for that pantry! I don’t have one and it would be like a dream come true.

  3. Absolutely an island with room for the fam to hang out… (love your idea of maybe a farmhouse table as the island) …. the very first thing I think of is family sitting at the table / Island.. in the kitchen… LONG. . . after the meal has been consumed…. chatting with one another… just hanging!!!!!! sooooo…. love … love kitchen islands with seating!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. So many decisions and so many good ideas to consider, Dawn.
I love open shelves too, but haven’t gone with the idea for the
same reason you’ve mentioned. Maybe just one for decorative purposes!

  5. I have had my GE Profile stainless steel appliances for 12 years without any breakdowns! Just keep on making those appliances last and last! So for me an American Kitchen is having appliances you can count on!

  6. I have an open bookcase in my kitchen, and I do dust it every two weeks. So, I’m thinking open shelving would be about the same. Or you could just wipe more often when you are placing your dishes and bowls back on the shelves. I have Fiesta Ware dishes and would love open shelves.
I don’t have an island, but that is another thing I would loveโ€ฆjust for family meals. For larger gatherings, I still prefer a “real” dining room.
Can’t live without a pantry either! I have a small walk in, but it’s great.
As for GE appliances—I had my previous range for over 30 yrs. I’m the “slate” GE owner. We emailed each other—anyway, I like your white choices, but would I buy GE again? It’s a year later—lets just say, “steam clean” has been a huge disappointment as has the convection fan in the range ovenโ€ฆ.enough said. I would consider other brands before you settle on GE. Enough said.

Well Dawn, The thought of a kitchen to design kept me up lots of nights. We had our new kitchen put in 7 years ago. I have 2 ovens now and can not think of doing with out 2. My island I also love but it was designed for prep only and so there is no place to put stools. I kind of like it that way so the 7 kids are not hanging out when I’m trying to cook. I so like the idea of a dining room but would not use one, except on holidays. We do not have one now but we do have a large harvest table made 10 feet long to feed our gang and it is in the kitchen. I love white appliances and white cupboards and will most likely have them in our next home. Open shelves I really like the look of …I do not have any now but maybe in the next house would put one in just to put dรฉcor etc on….I would also worry about dust.but..they do seem to be warm and inviting. Anything you choose will be so nice.

  8. I believe an American kitchen must suit the American lifestyle. Very busy people need function and convenience, however we also want an attractive space. For me that means homey, comforting, and light.

  9. Debbie Dehoney says:

The American Kitchen is the hub of the home. It’s a place for all to gather and share the joys and challenges of the day. My kitchen seems to be the place parties happen!

  10. An American kitchen provides a space for family and friends to gather and enjoy one another with good food.

  11. To me, the kitchen means a spacious place for preparing great meals. If I had it to do over again, I would have more drawers than lower cupboards so you don’t have to crawl in there to find something. The kitchen is the hub of the home and also the best smelling place to be!

  12. Bre Stone says:

The kitchen is where I prepare, create, experiment, mess but enjoy cleaning up. The kitchen is where we all gather so I like enough room that we aren’t bumping into each other but close enough for easy conversations. Dream kitchen for me would be double oven, large pantry, an large center island that doubles as a food prep station and table so we can all gather around it and lots of natural light.

  13. Stephanie Phelps says:

  16. Our kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s a place where we cook, talk do homework and live.

  17. When we were looking at homes to buy I walked into this one and almost gasped. It was love at first sight when I saw the kitchen. It was bigger than anything I’d ever had before. It has a small island for prep, but also has a large bar area big enough for 4 swivel stools. We love having friends and family over and whenever we do have company they almost never leave the kitchen/dining area, lol! When there’s no company, we eat breakfast and lunch at the bar, but then suppers are eaten in the dining area together around the table. (Our kitchen and dining area are one big room.) Lots of homeschooling and crafts happen at the table as well. My dream is to have a 10ft farmhouse table someday, along with white cabinets, butcher block counters, and white appliances. To us, the kitchen is the heart of the home. I cook 7 days a week, 3 meals a day, most of the time. I would LOVE to win a new fridge from GE! ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. To me, the American kitchen is the gathering place for the family. I keep my extended family together by preparing meals for them during holidays. Although our kitchen is small, it’s where everyone heads to when first arriving because that’s where all the action is and where the hospitality begins! Thanks for the opportunity to win a GE fridge. And Dawn, I have always loved the idea of having an island in the kitchen where 2 or 3 could sit but having the farmhouse table behind it where the whole family could sit together. It would be the best of both worlds!

  19. Barbara Jean Hubbard says:

The kitchen is a warm gathering place for families.

  20. The American Kitchen to me is like the heart of the home. It is where meals are made with love and care. It is also where family can come together to work and share in laughter and brings back memories from when you were little and cooked with your mom or other adult.ย

My kitchen was designed (we have to sell and are relocating, sob) to be warm and traditional with induction cooktop and wall ovens and space age fridge. The perfect kitchen should reflect the cook’s needs. I need a good work triangle, hardwood floors and to see what’s going on in the living room.

It is the very heartbeat of our home where my family is enriched with love, life and laughter for years and generations to come!

I feel the American Kitchen is the most important room in a house for the family as
it is where we all grow. Not just growing from eating nutritious food prepared in the kitchen
but growing (closer) as a family & individuals as we come together to eat, relax, converse & work on projects.
