Herb’s Used Two Ways

Herb and Flower ArrangementDon’t waste the HERBS! I’ve been so disappointed this year not having fresh herbs of my own to cut. Last fall when we revamped our landscape design I removed the herb and strawberry garden. What was I thinking? I know at the time it was getting overgrown and if you’ve ever planted herbs you know they can take over an area in no time. Many of them have small hair link runners that are almost impossible to kill off.  Needless to say I’m buying fresh herbs right now and most of the time the bundle is so large it’s never used up in one recipe so to get my moneys worth I’m using what I need to cook with and adding the rest to a farmhouse bowl filled with water and a few cut flowers from my garden. May as well have a pretty bouquet for the kitchen, right?

Cucumber Herb SaladI specifically purchased the herbs for this CUCUMBER SALAD recipe, not only is it easy it’s so refreshing on a hot summer’s day. If you follow me on INSTAGRAM you’ve heard me talk about shedding unwanted fat from this ole’ bod! I’ve been sharing my healthy food menu, to me photos of clean eating food are inspiring so I’ve been on the hunt for new recipes lately. I’m doing two protein shakes a day and one healthy meal.

Herb and Flower Arrangement

Note to self, plant an herb garden next spring in a container!!! I’ll be able to control its growth much easier that way.

I am loving my galvanized tub gardens. Mine have flowers for the most part, and succulents but I want to do an herb garden too. I never look at the calendar to plant so why don’t you go ahead and start one now? Buy plants in 4 inch pots at the garden center or nursery and you can enjoy them the rest of the Summer. You can dig them out of the bigger container and pop them back into smaller pots to have on your windowsill once the temps start to drop or you can add them to the compost heap. Just an idea. ๐Ÿ™‚

Pam I started looking and can’t seem to find any left on the shelves. I will continue and hopefully find a few to use this year still.

Carol I use them often and have no idea why I riped them all out, other than they were taking over and I was ready for a new landscape design. If I can find them I will still purchase this year and see how they do.

I love how the herbs look with your fresh cut flowers. I agree with you on planting some herbs in a container – I don’t have any this year and I’m really missing the little bits here and there in my dishes. I’ve been using dried herbs when cooking my summer vegetables, but now that I can see how you’re using the excess, I think I’ll pick some fresh ones up when shopping. I began eating better and an exercise regimen a year and a half ago. I’ve lost nineteen pounds and some inches, plus I’m feeling much more energetic. I don’t always feel like working out or resisting junk food, but it’s definitely worth it.

Cheryl I’m weight loss is moving pretty quickly but My Fitness Pal warned me that my calorie intake was way to low, so I’ll need to adjust that before other things start to happen.
