DIY APPLE SNACK CHIPS: THESE CAN BE MADE IN YOUR OVEN OR A DEHYDRATOR. THEY MAKE FOR A DELICIOUS NUTRITIONAL SNACK THAT’S A BETTER ALTERNATIVE TO SUGARY STORE BOUGHT TREATS!
Remember all those apples I used to decorate with for fall (below you can click on the links to see them all). Well I didn’t want them to get mushy (I hate mushy apples) and go bad so I decided to make a healthy snack; Apple Chips. This couldn’t be easier and it’s a great way to save any fruit you have on hand from being tossed into the compost bin. Food is so expensive if I can find a way to salvage it I’m going too. Has anyone else notice how high the prices of everything is these days and food included?
I know many people dip their apple slices in lemon or apple juice to keep them from turning brown and sprinkle them with cinnamon and sugar before dehydrating them, but not me. I like to keep them as natural as possible and I try and not put any extra sugar into my diet. All I do is slice the apples thin with a knife or mandolin whatever you have, line them tightly on dehydrator trays, and let it do it’s magic for 24 hours. Voila’ Apple Snack Chips, then I store them in an airtight container and snack on them all winter long. Even ziplock bags work great for storage, as long as the air is kept from them you’re golden.
