After a long winter we finally had a week of warmer temps, which meant the ceiling of the porch was finally going up. I’d ordered all the materials before our youngest son had his accident and our life finally got back on track enough to take the time to run and pick everything up. We’re adding steel to the underside in a mushroom color; it’s the same color as our window casings and doors. We went the weekend after New Years to pick everything up but it’s been on the trailer for two months waiting for the snow to quit.
Hubby decided to semi retire at the end of last year so he’s home more now to do all those tasks that have been waiting to get finished (he actually only works about one week a month now). The list is long and now that he’s home, and the weather is getting nicer we can get them done.
First thing that needed to be done was add 2X4’s to attach the steel to, one of our employees spent 3 day at our house helping hubby get everything done and they left me to do the dummy work at least that’s what I call it. You know that work that has to get done, the kind that’s not fun, but is a must? Yep that’s the stuff I get stuck with; staining all the trim….BORING.
The porch and yard looked like a garage sale gone wrong for a few days. The men took all the furniture off the deck and placed it in the front yard so they had a clean area to work in. I looked out and just cringed, what a mess stuff wasn’t even neatly placed but I had to suck it up and wait it out. Boy I couldn’t wait to get everything back in order once the project was over. I swept, put the furniture back on the porch, and was happy with the results.
Now for me at the end of my work day I would tidy up the place, put all my tools in a nice neat area, and take care of stuff that shouldn’t be left out in the weather; but not the men, it was a hot mess going on out there is all I have to say.
I’ll be back soon to show you the reveal I need to get my new cushions on the furniture before I take any pics, the old cushions already found their way to the thrift shop. I’d like to get a few ferns but the weather will dictate that part so I’ll have to wait and see.
I thought you might like to take a look at the ceiling before the steel went up. It’s not horrible but I’m constantly knocking bees nest out from all the little spots they can build, and it truly never looked finished to me. I think the steel will stop that and also be easy to clean, I can just take a broom to it every once in awhile and sweep all the dust away.
