RUSTIC SIDE ENTRANCE OF A LOG HOME DECORATED FOR CHRISTMAS USING TREES CUT FROM THE PROPERTY, A VINTAGE RED WAGON, AN OLD FASHIONED SLED, AND A HANDMADE GRAPEVINE WREATH. WE’LL BE ENJOYING A SIMPLE CHRISTMAS WITH SIMPLE NATURAL DECOR THIS YEAR!
I’m excited to share with you today our side entrance all decked out for Christmas. Remember an earlier post that I shared with you of collecting the clippings and trees from around our property? Well here is where I used one of the pine trees and some of the clippings. I was so happy to pull my vintage red wagon around our fields and trim what I needed for decorating this year.
Every year we have more and more stray pine trees pop up out the earth and some are seeded quite close together and it’s the perfect opportunity for me to thin them out. I just love being able to use what grows in our own fields and not have to pay for a thing. We have 4 variety of pine trees and cedar trees growing so I take advantage of them every year but this is the first year to actually cut a tree, I normally just trim the branches.
But not this year I selected a couple of short full trees to use outside in my decor. I plopped the tree in a large enamelware stovetop canner that I picked up at a flea market for $5. I just couldn’t pass it up and I knew I’d add a tree to it this year along with a few bricks to the bottom to keep it from blowing off the deck. It’s always very windy at our house, we live on a hill surrounded by farmland, so keeping thing actually on the deck is challenging at times. I use bricks to weight things down quite often.
I have a funny story to share with you about the Christmas Tree sign hanging on the porch. First I’ll just say my hubby is not observant about decor, I moved in new furniture one time and it took him 3 years to notice. That being said here’s what happened! I heard a knock on the door, I knew it had to be a stranger because anyone that knows us would walk right it without knocking, so I cautiously went to the door to see who it was.
There stood my hubby, I figured his hands must be full so I opened the door for him. He said to me, Ma’am where are those Christmas trees you have cut? I looked at him like he’d lost his mind and then I realized he’d been reading the sign on the porch.
I couldn’t believe he stopped and noticed that I’d decorated for Christmas. So we both got a good laugh out of it and I directed him over yonder to find his tree. I had to step out and read the sign again to make sure we were both talking about the same thing.
You’ll never know how much I’ve enjoyed Christmas decorating this year by using the items I already had, searching the property for things to use, and just making due. It’s been a joyful challenge that I encourage everyone to try. Buying new’s not as fun and using what I have and getting creative!
