ADDING A CURTAIN TO THE PANTRY DOOR MAKES THE KITCHEN COZY IN WINTER MONTHS AND KEEPS IT LOOKING NEAT AND ORDERLY!
I lucky and honored to be sharing with you today my pantry door curtain that’s part of the Cozy Living series hosted by Jennifer from Town N Country Living. This small change in the kitchen was all part of getting things back to normal after the holiday décor was tucked away.
COZY
Yes, the black and white buffalo check curtain was perfect on the pantry door, but I was in the mood for something less colorful and simple. I think we all feel that way after Christmas. After auditioning several white curtains that I already owned I decided upon a drop cloth.
The texture, and warm oatmeal color was just the look I was going for. After searching high and low for a new drop cloth that I know I own I finally gave up, I have no idea where I put that darn things. I looked in my usual spot but it wasn’t there so I forgot about if for a few days and was reminded of it while shopping at Menards. I thought to myself I need to pick up a new one to make the pantry curtain with.
CURTAIN
I guess I was being cheap that day and decided against it so after pushing it around in my cart it ended up back on the shelf. I said forget it I’d make due with something I already own. Even if it wasn’t my favorite look I was determined to live with whatever I already had.
Lucky me, while looking through my sewing things I ran across a piece of leftover drop cloth from a pervious craft project and wouldn’t you know it, it was the exact size I needed for making the pantry curtain. Now I mean this was meant to be, I didn’t have to cut a thing all I did was sew the top and bottom of the piece so I could make a pocket for the curtain rod.
PANTRY
I’m so glad I stalled buying anything and procrastinated in doing something else because it all came together just perfectly in the end. I love it when that happens, how about you?
The month of January was devoted to cleaning, organizing and de-cluttering. If you missed my baking cupboard organization you can see that here. Did you notice I still couldn’t due without my black and white? I added a bit of it in the dishtowel and that satisfied me. Sometimes there are just certain things I love and no matter how hard I try they always sneak back into our home and buffalo check and gingham or two of those things.
NEAT
I’m really enjoying our kitchen decorated in a simple farmhouse style with crocks, wooden utensils, and gathered over time pottery pieces. If you’re new to the blog we actually live in a log cabin we built about 10 years ago with our own hands and lots of hard work. Since then my style has evolved but as of lately I’m leaning towards things that make me happy and things that hold their charm for years to come.
The cabin was built with locally cut and dried red pine logs, our cabinets were custom made by an Amish family, and hubby poured our black concrete countertops. Even our floors are wide plank pine from a local sawmill. The floors have taken quite a beating over the years with dogs, cats, and our family that never take off our shoes. But it’s our cozy home!
ORDERLY
The way I keep it all looking put together is to have a place for everything, put things away when I’m done with them, use pieces that have multiple uses, and stay on top of things. A great way to keep the pantry space looking tidy is the curtain. If the shelves get a little over stocked or things look a tad messy it can all be hid behind a simple drop cloth curtain and no one is the wiser.

I love your cabin and wonder what is cooking in the crock pot! I have the same jar that is on your counter and I wonder what was originally in them when they came from the store!! I have clothes pins in mine…Finally a break from our Michigan cold weather today!!
Jeanie, I had white bean chicken chili in the crockpot. I love how easy it is so it’s one of my go to recipes when I want something simple to make. I purchased my jar as is with nothing in it, but when I see vintage ones I always noticed they had a red or green lid. It actually felt hot today when it reached 20 degrees, lol.
Dawn, I just made white bean soup with ham!! I use the crock pot a lot…My jar has the silver lid and I purchased it a sale years ago….46 here in Jackson today and sunny!!!
Love your kitchen! After 10 years what is your take on the concrete counter tops over the long haul? Pros? Cons? We are heading into a big remodel in the next few months. I’ve been considering concrete. Have a great day!
Lori, I still love the countertops as much today as I did the day we installed them. I’ve never had any trouble with them at all. We are getting ready to do them in my sons house in the spring.

This might just be the coziest kitchen I’ve ever seen! I absolutely LOVE the warmth of the cabinets next to all of those gorgeous wood tones and the curtain over the pantry door was a brilliant idea to keep things looking tidy. Such a warm and inviting space Dawn!
Hi Dawn!!! I laughed when you said, “auditioning several white curtains that I already owned”… it’s so true isn’t it, we do audition things that come into our home and make our space just right! I think the drop cloth was a perfect choice! I must say, I am having stool envy, it’s so cute and vintage looking!
Laurie I rescued that vintage stool from my mom and stepdads old house. It was in the basement and heading for the scrap pile but I grabbed it before it was gone.

What a cozy kitchen!!! I don’t think I could have a see through door on my pantry, it’s far too stuffed for that, so the curtain is a great idea. I love the contrast of the ivory cabinets, the wood floors/walls, and the black countertops – I thought they were concrete when I looked closely! Gorgeous kitchen!

Debbie yes they are concrete and I love them. It was a good decision when we did them and I still love them to this day!
