Rustic Christmas Living Room Tour

Christmas PillowsI can’t believe this is the last room I have to share with you this Christmas. I didn’t do as much decorating as I normally do, but I was proud of myself for working with the things I already had in storage. It’s so nice to have everything done and be able to sit back and enjoy it all. One of my favorite times is first thing in the morning, between 5-6 am, when I plug in the tree lights, make a cup of Chai tea, fire up my iPad and read a book while watching the glow from the tree lights. It’s such a relaxing picture for me, and I always enjoy my alone time before the day gets started.

Rustic Log Home Living Room TourThis years Living Room Christmas tree didn’t even get any ornaments. It’s a pre-lit tree so all I had to do was assemble it and stand back to admire. I always used to fight with my Mom when I was at home about the trees decor. One of my favorite looks is a Charlie Brown tree, I like them straggly, with only white lights on it. The rest of my family liked the colored lights with lots of mix matched ornaments. It was always to busy for me but I was out voted every years, so some years with my own tree I just add lights and call it good.

Rustic Log Home Christmas TourI live in a home with all men so they don’t care what I do with the tree or even care if we have a tree for that matter. When the kids were younger going out to cut down a tree was a fun family time but it’s not on their to do list anymore. So I’m fine with putting up my faux tree and decorating it just the way I like all by myself. I do have to admit all that Christmas stuff sure attracts the dust and it’s hard to clean around it all. I’ll be ready to give the house a good once over as soon as things are back in order again. I’m planning on getting new furniture after Christmas so it will be a good time to give the place a deep cleaning.

Fresh Christmas Garland on the Railing of a Rustic Log Home

Rustic Log Home ChristmasOur current furniture is slipcovered pieces for Jร‡Penney and I think I’m going to go with slipcovered pieces again. I just love the idea of throwing them in the wash when a spot appears, and also being able to change the color out when I get tired of what’s there. We actually never use our living room so I’ll be able to go with cheaper furniture than what’s in it right now. I’m leaning toward Ikea pieces, but that may change once I get down and dirty looking again. I’d love to find some remakes of the old lodge side chairs that had the wooden arms and rocked.

Rustic Christmas Decor

Rustic and Vintage Christmas DecorI don’t know if you remember what I’m talking about, but I remember those arm chairs being so comfortable back in the day. It’s hard to find furniture that isn’t over stuffed and huge these days, I think they make it that way to suit all the oversized Americans, lol. It seems to me that type of furniture breaks down much faster too. Maybe all that stuffing just packs down and makes the piece look horrible. I’m not real fond of furniture that swallows you up the minute you sit down anyway.

Rustic Natural Christmas DecorIf I’m not back before Christmas, have a wonderful day filled with family and friends!

  4. Dawn, just wondered where you all actually relax. You said in this post you donโ€™t use the living room and in another, you donโ€™t use the dining room. Do you have a family room? Always love your decor! From a fellow Michigander!

  7. I had the same comment as Linda. You said you never use your living room, so where do you relax, watch TV, etc? Your kitchen/dining room/living room area is SO warm and inviting, I could certainly live there happily.

    1. Pat we have a whole level I’ve never shared on the blog. Hubby has a man cave and watches tv there quite often, and we eat at the island.

      1. I understand. Nowhere is it written that you have to expose your entire home to the world. It’s such a nice living room. I would claim it as my own if I were you. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I’m seeing photos online of up to 10 trees, fully decked (and I mean DECKED) out in many homes and while they are over the top gorgeous, there’s something to be said about minimal, graceful and meaningful decor. And after the holiday cleanup! Lol.

Your tree is perfect for the wonderful space of your cabin, and what I really love is that I can see and enjoy the entire room and all the lovely touches you’ve placed around it. I’m a white light gal too. Do you have a source for the pillows (they’re probably sold out, but what the heck) and your little trees?

Have a very merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. I hope Gramma Red comes home soon, to be with you and yours.
