Craft/Office Space Reveal
The dreaded Craft/Office Space, also known as the Crap room. I seem to live in this space and before I know it everything I do ends up in here and I’m closed in by projects and paperwork that need to be completed for the blog and business.
When I muster up the right frame of mind I go full bore and do a total redo. Since this space has multi purposes there’s lots going on in here. It may seem cluttered but it’s what works for me. Everything is right where I need it, all I have to do is swivel my chair and go from blogging to crafting in one easy move. One Mac is for blogging and one is for our business. I also have separate printers for them the fast multi page printer for our business, and the slow color printer for blogging.
Every corner has a purpose, as you can see, my tripods are stacked in this one. Remember the love seat I painted? It’s still holding up nicely and the dog is always on it. Right now I have some flannel on the cushion, I figured pleather would be too hot to lay on in the summer. The buffalo check curtains were gifted to me by my friend Kris, I did shorten them to just under the window, I didn’t want them to look to formal in this room.
Years ago I covered the desks that hubby made me with polka-dot fabric and clear vinyl. It’s held up perfectly and it’s much cheaper than oil cloth, I think the fabric and vinyl is 4 years old and looks the same as the day I did it. I keep vintage pyrex bowls on the sewing table to keep my scraps in, and any squares I have cut for a future project. If I have only a small amount of fabric left I immediately cut it into squares to use another time. I find if I just throw it in the scrab bin uncut I never come back to it, this way it’s all neat and tidy and ready to use.
I have an old wire freezer rack hung from the wall and like to keep the fabric I’m using for upcoming projects in it. If I have it right in front of me it reminds me of what I need to get done. Right now I have flannel staring me in the face, that I’ll be using for pillowcases in my son’s room. He only likes flannel sheets, even in the summer.
The artwork gallery wall has been on my list of things to do for months. I finally got around to getting them all up. I gathered old frames from around the house and used bright colored spray paint to accent the artwork. My son did all of these when he was 7, he’s not as impressed with them as I am.
When I said I live in this room I meant it. I even have an oversized oval chair covered in a vintage quilt in here and it’s where I sit to watch movies, I order from Netflix and watch them on my computer. I’m not much of a tv watcher, it has to be something I want to see or I can’t sit still. I’m not one of those people that have it on all day just for background noise, I prefer having my windows open and listen to the birds chatter.
Believe it or not, the space functions for me and I know right where everything is. I have to stay organized or things get out of control fast. The file cabinets you see under both desks are for the business and fit perfectly underneath with room for a chair and my feet.
That cute monkey fabric crate holds everything I need to do on a daily basis, if it needs to be filed I drop it in the crate and at the end of the day I put everything where it needs to go. I like not having to look at it all stacked up on my desk so this is what method works for me.
I thought you might like to see the rooms layout. So many times it’s hard to get a feel for how the room is when you just see pictures. I know I have read blogs that take me a while to get the feel for their homes arrangement. Well I’m glad that chore is done and now I can get back to crafting. I have some furniture I need to paint, and some sewing I need to do.
Looks like a good working room Dawn. I use views like your last one when I want to move furniture around … not computer generated ones but graph paper cutouts … the good old fashioned way ๐
Linda I’ve done the old fashioned way before too. Its just easier for me to get the scale right on the computer.
I’m sure it feels really great to get it all organized, Dawn. It looks like such a cute and comfortable room to work and relax in. Love the artwork!
JoAnne the artwork is the best part about my craft space.
Hi Dawn
Love the space! What program did you use for your layout image? laura
Laura I just used PicMonkey for that but I normally use InDesign, but I was in a hurry this time.
Dawn,
I love your creative work space. The gallery wall is awesome. I bet it just makes your heart smile to see those beautiful drawings from your son. So sweet. Glad you could make the curtains work they look great. Have a great week.
Kris
Kris, I love those curtain and hated to cut them off, but I do like them shorter for in my craft room and yours such a sweet heart for gifting them too me.
I don’t know how all of you crafters keep your space so organized. I do good to see the floor! LOL Great job!
Judy
Judy you are too funny sometimes. If I don’t stay organized it makes me feel stressed out, so I try and keep up on it.
Dawn, there are just so many neat ideas to comment on I’d be writing way too much!
I think this is the cutest country office I’ve seen yet and I swear if someone showed me
one of these photos I’d immediately say “that’s Dawn’s office”. It’s such a reflection of
your decorating style.
Kim, it’s one spot that has more things in it than I like but I have no choice. I don’t want to take up one room for an office and another for a craft space, so they have to be combined.
I don’t have the amount of space you have, but I got some ideas from you. I am going to hang some of my wire baskets on the inside back of my armoire to hold my fabrics.
Hope you are having a great time at the beach.
Carol, I did reply to you on Instagram but noticed I didn’t tag you, yes Im having a good time at the beach in Florida.
Hi Dawndie! How nice to see your own space. I’m with you, whether it makes sense to anyone else, you must have your things where you feel comfortable. Looks like you’ve got a pretty big space to work in too! I’m working on my sewing/craft room at the moment and almost have it done. Hope you’re doing well.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ๐
Shelia, I agree it may not be for everyone but it’s what works for me. Can’t wait to see what you are doing in your space.
Your craft room looks great, Dawn. The double tables are a great idea and the curtains are so cheery. Enjoy creating!
Elizabeth buffalo check curtains are my all time first pick for fabric. I never seem to tire of them. Thanks for stopping in.
Oh Dawn, I would love to have a space of my own like yours! We have an office where I keep some of my crafting supplies, but it has been overtaken by Leo! I’m thinking of moving in a table and carving out some “me” space! Love your bright colors and I knew there was a reason I saved an old freezer crate!
Jane that old freezer crate sure has came in handy for several different things, and it’s perfect for fabric. I say tell Leo to move over and make some room for you.
I like the space. It is neater than mine. I can see that I need to use more wall space. My computer is in the corner of
another room. I tape stuff to the book shelves and have a small bulletin board. One space is for the computer and
business and the other is for sewing on the machine and cutting and downstairs by my chair I have all my knitting and embroidery. Love it. No model home is this.
Lorraine
Lorraine, I have no model home either just one that functions for me. I think I kind of like the cluttered look in this space, it has all the things I love to do right at my fingertips.
I am working on my space too Dawn…I like the basket on the wall for fabric…I think I will try to find something similar…I also like the way you brightened up the wall by painting your frames bright colors…Have fun at the beach..I watched your videos on Instagram…I could almost smell the salt air..lol..
Nancy thank you for watching the video, I know what you mean about smelling the ocean ๐ I finally got back late last night aftet several plane delays. It’s good to be home.
So, so cute Dawn….beauty and function I say! Love your gallery wall….and I am following your lead on that cute way to corral the cord!…Love your craft/office space!
Shirley I hate cords all over the place so I normally find some way to make them look cute, yet keep them out of the way.
It looks great. It is cheery and functions well. I love your sons art work….Clutter sure has a way of taking over…you do a great job of organizing everything.
Cheryl, The favorite part of the room is the artwork for me. I actually found it by accident and I’m so glad it didn’t end up in the burn pile.
Thanks for sharing Dawn. I love your work space. I need to do that but we only have a 3 bedroom and my hubs uses one guest room as his office. We are looking at extending one guest room out to the deck for a space for me. So for now I am spread out and it drives me crazy?
Lynne I have to use mine as a craft room and office combined. I have an actual office room in the house but I turned it into my shoe room ๐ to many shoes that’s for sure.
