Easy tea recipe for cold, cough, and stuffy nose
Winter woes got you down? 🤧 A cold, cough, and stuffy nose can really put a damper on your day. But don’t worry, there’s a simple, natural remedy you can whip up in your kitchen: a delicious and soothing tea! This recipe uses just a few ingredients, packed with goodness to help you feel better. Let’s get brewing!
I’ve been fighting off what I like to call “the cooties” since early October. It’s not that I feel completely sick—I just don’t feel like myself. A sore throat, a mild cough, and waves of tiredness keep cycling through, and honestly, I’m over it. I know better than to let it linger, but I didn’t jump on it soon enough. So here I am, finally ready to whip up a simple herbal remedy that actually helps.
I bundled up and trudged out into my winter garden in search of what I needed. My oregano patch is huge, and I knew that beneath the beautiful blanket of snow, I’d find a few hardy green sprigs still holding on. Sure enough, there it was—fresh, fragrant, and ready to be picked.
I snipped just enough oregano for a cozy cup of tea and made my way back through the snow toward the cabin. The cold air bit at my cheeks, but the thought of a warm, soothing brew waiting inside made the trek completely worth it.
I do have plenty of dehydrated oregano stored away in my pantry, but there’s something special about using it fresh while it’s still thriving. (Of course, if you don’t have fresh oregano on hand, dried or dehydrated works perfectly fine for this recipe too.)
What You’ll Need
- 1 Teaspoon Fresh Oregano (dried or dehydrated oregano works too, use about 2 tablespoon)
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- Local Honey (optional) – to taste, for added sweetness and soothing properties
- 8-10 ounces of Water
Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these simple steps to make your soothing tea: (DRINK 2 CUPS A DAY)
- Boil the Water: Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan or kettle.
- Add Ingredients: Add the oregano and cinnamon stick to the boiling water or if you have a tea cup with infuser and lid.
- Simmer: Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes. This allows the herbs to release their beneficial properties. If using the tea cup mentioned above pour the boiling water into the tea cup and steep with cup lid on for 10 minutes before drinking.
- Strain: Strain the tea into a mug to remove the oregano leaves and cinnamon stick. If using the infuser tea cup remove the infuser and replace the lid on the cup.
- Add Honey (Optional): Stir in honey to taste, if desired. Honey can help soothe a sore throat and add a touch of sweetness.
- Enjoy: Sip slowly and enjoy the warmth and comfort!
- To keep hot leave tea cup lid on between sips.
Tips for Soothing Symptoms
Here are some extra tips to maximize the benefits of your tea and soothe your cold symptoms:
- Inhale the Steam: Before drinking, hold the mug close to your face and inhale the steam. This can help to clear nasal passages.
- Drink it Hot: The warmth of the tea can help to soothe a sore throat and loosen congestion.
- Rest and Hydrate: Combine this tea with plenty of rest and other fluids like water and broth to help your body recover.
- Adjust to Taste: Feel free to adjust the amount of oregano or honey to your liking.
This simple tea is a great way to find some relief from the discomfort of a cold, cough, and stuffy nose. The natural ingredients work together to provide soothing comfort and support your body’s healing process. So, brew yourself a cup, relax, and let the healing begin! Remember to combine this with rest and lots of fluids.
