Fall Chicken Coop Decor, Mums, Pumpkins, Corn Stalks, Farmhouse Fall Decor, Chicken Coop Decor

Outside the chicken coop seems to be one of my favorite places to decorate. Now that I have it painted, the stock tank in place, and a few rustic pieces I thought why not add a little fall décor to it.

My DIL and I popped into Lowes for a bag of bird seed and found their 3 color mum bundles on clearance for $5. I was surprised to see them marked down already, but since they were I grabbed a few to use around the chicken coop.

I didn’t want to spend a lot of money so with 2 mum plants, a pumpkin, and a few corn stalks I walked out of Lowes spending $12. I went ahead and planted the mums into the soil. I’m not sure they’ll come back next year; our winter temps may get to cold and freeze them out since they’re in an above ground container but I’ll give it a try.

I cut all the ears of corn off the corn stalks and tossed them into the compost bin. I didn’t need to be inviting mice into the area. If the mice come to eat the corn I’m afraid they’ll take up nesting in the chicken coop and I don’t care to have a mouse infestation.

It seems like every year I do less and less decorating. I’m just not interesting in spending a lot of money. We live so far off the road no one ever sees it but us and the delivery trucks. It’s also a big waste if the things can’t be reused, repurposed, or planted to come back again.

Hopefully the mums will come back, the pumpkin I’ll give to my DIL’s chickens to eat (after I get the seeds to roast) and the corn stalks will go into the compost; so most things will be of use. It seems like this lockdown (yes our state is still one) has made me rethink things when it comes to spending even more than I ever have. And decorating on a budget is even more important.

Outside Rustic Fall Decorating, Chicken Coop

What’s your favorite way to decorate for fall? Do you use natural things, live plants, and pumpkins or do you prefer to use faux? Do you like the traditional fall colors or are you going with what’s trending?

Your decorations are vintage and I love them. I also planted mums in the soil this year and hope they come back next year. We went to Pentwater and other towns this week end and the colors are so beautiful. Thought of you when we passed the sign to your town..

Sharon, LOL when you get a free coop it has flaws. It’s on my list to fix I just haven’t done it yet.

Thank you Judy, it’s a peaceful spot to decorate and I get to see it when I pull in the driveway. It just makes me happy 🙂
