MY FAVORITE MUST HAVE ITEMS THAT WILL GIVE ANY KITCHEN THAT FARMHOUSE FEEL, COLLECTED OVER TIME LOOK!

Must have items to create a farmhouse kitchenI had a rough time in the kitchen department this week…..I was unloading the dishwasher and putting things away only to drop my truffle bowl right in the middle of the drawer that holds our plates, bowls, soup mugs, and dipping bowls. I’ve had this happen on more than one occasion but for some reason this time it hit just right and shattered or chipped several pieces.

I dont’ know about you but it’s my understanding once a bowl is chipped it can harbor bacteria in that area and shouldn’t be used any longer, so into the trash things went. It now left me with only my Corelle dinner plates and bowl still in tact.

Must Have Items To Get That Farmhouse Kitchen Look

How To Get That Farmhouse Kitchen Look Well I took that as a sign that it was time to replace things and get something that I really loved yet was still affordable, dishwasher and microwave safe. And as long as I was shopping I was looking for pieces that would give me that farmhouse look, and also be neutral so going with gray and white with a pop of green was the direction I was headed toward. I had no idea what was out there so I decided to hit Tuesday Morning, World Market, and Kirklands to see what I could find. All three stores are in the same parking lot so that was a bonus, I didn’t have to travel all over to find what I was looking for.

What I ended up with was 8 bowls in two different sizes, 4 soup mugs, and 6 dipping bowls, the rest of the items I had. I didn’t have to spend a lot of money but I was able to replace all the broken items in one trip and everything looks nice together again.

Must Have Items To Get That Farmhouse Kitchen LookMust Have Items To Get That Farmhouse Kitchen LookSo if you’re looking to get the farmhouse feel these are the top things on my list that are must haves: Cutting boards, Market Bags, Gingham pieces, Lots of White pieces that can be mixed and matched, anything Enamelware, and a Signature Color (I’m going with green). Sometimes an accident can turn out quite nicely. I’m in love with the new dishes and the fun they bring to our kitchen.

  • Green Measuring Spoons: World Market
  • Cow Tea Towel: Target
  • Rack on the Side of Cupboard: Ikea
  • Small Olive Bucket: Kirklands

    Hi Dawn!
Love your blog and your home! I too also live in a log home so itโ€™s nice to have decorating ideas that I can relate to! The green colors are so pretty that youโ€™ve chosen. I love your island color and the way you decorated it with the market bag and towel. On a different subject I was wondering if you could tell me where you got the sheep and green door canvas print in a previous post on the towel holder? I think itโ€™s so cute! Thanks so much!

Melanie glad to hear you’re a log home liver too. I find it to be the hardest home to decorate, (especially if the lodge look is not your things). The sheep print is from Kirklands ๐Ÿ™‚

Sometimes we’re forced to change things up a little, aren’t we? I once had a vinyl bathroom floor that I hated, but put up with because I didn’t want to spend the money. Then the toilet ran over and soaked everything baseboard to baseboard. I blamed the floor, said it needed to go, and had a new one installed. Yes, I realize I was looking for an excuse. ๐Ÿ™‚

All of your new things look great.

Pat I’m having that happen here right now. I discovered our washing machine is leaking and I fear the wood floors underneath may be ruined ๐Ÿ™ I’ll know more Friday when the repair man gets here.

I love your farmhouse kitchen, very warm and welcoming. Ok, I better throw out a couple of chip dishes, I know better. I have one cute little dipping bowl like yours:).
    Have a beautiful day Dawn,

Kathleen I was so afraid the integrity of the bowls were in question and that they’d explode in the microwave so they had to go. I am enjoying using the new piece though and they look so pretty all together in the drawer:)
