Firefighter Graduation Ceremony
I’m just getting around to posting these photo and this is my favorite from the evening. Not only did my Son graduated from firefighter school they also prayed, which was so moving. Prayer has been removed from so many things in our lives that I shed a few tears I was so inspired.
The firefighters organized their own ceremony and a potluck dinner for all the families invited to attend. As you can see there’s a wide range of age amongst the graduates and they all have their own reason for becoming a firefighter. Until my son made the choice I had no idea how much training and schooling was involved. Call me stupid but it’s not only about putting water on a fire, but I was completely naive untill now.
Every one of them has a full time job as well as attended school full time to fulfill their dreams. Next step is EMT school which will take place this fall. It was amazing to see how they all worked as a team, encouraged one another, studied together, and pulled each other up when it was needed. I guess that’s what it’s all about, becoming part of a family and working together to fight a fire. There truly is a brotherhood amongst those that serve. The above photo is my son accepting his graduation certificate.
And here he is (far right) with the two other firefighters that graduated from our community. They are amazing men for sure!

Dawn, I just read your other blog posts that you wrote about your son and his becoming a fire fighter. I am very moved by your words. I have a son serving in the Air Force, so I understand your pride and your fears. There have been some prolonged periods when my son was in a dangerous place – I wanted him to be back home, but he had to stay and do his part. It is true that the family serves alongside their family member.
Jen, I think serving our country is always a scary thing for a Mother. I’m with you I’d hate to have them away from home. My son at one point was going to become a Navy Seal and I lost a lot of sleep over that one. I’m so glad he changed his path! God Bless your Son!

It does my heart good to see that there are still people that are unashamed
to pray publicly, especially with all the craziness we hear about taking place in our world.
Kim Amen to that now it’s politically incorrect to pray and it breaks my heart.
Where there is prayer there is hope. I remember going to our son’s graduation from the Fire Academy. We too were so proud. Have a great week!

Congrats to your son ! I am with you, how sad it is that the lords prayer has been removed from so many ceremonies. Your volunteer firefighters have a lot more training than ours do. My husband is a volunteer firefighter and he does receive training but nothing like your son does. It is a job to be proud of for sure and yet a worry just the same.
Cheryl I wonder if the training is state specific? I’ll have to ask my son that question. Tell your hubby thank you for the job he does, I know how important the volunteers are 🙂
