Flowering Pear Tree in Bloom

Flowering Pear TreeThe strangest thing is going on. I have 4 flowering pear trees on the property but only one is in full bloom right now. How can that possibly be? They’re all bout 20 feet from one another and get the same amount of sunlight. This has never happened before they always all bloom at the same time.

Flowering Pear TreeI know we’ve had a very slow start to our spring but the pears should all be flowering at the same time. Anyone have any ideas as to what this is all about? I went and checked and all trees have new buds so I know they are still alive and they have been in the ground for about 7 years and have all bloomed every spring. This is such a mystery, I will have to keep a close eye out to see if the others ever do anything. I used to have a flowering plum that only flowered every other year, but I know that’s not the case with pear trees. This is one of the most beautiful trees I have ever planted, it turns a glorious bright yellow, then orange, then red as it nears Autumn. I also love that it’s not a tree that sheds tiny undeveloped fruit onto the ground, it just produces blooms….sweet smelling blooms.

    1. Linda, me too I am still keeping an eye on them. I am beginning to think it’s just a strange spring and strange things will be happening.

  1. Dawn our blooms weren’t the best this year either…I think it’s from the harsh winter we had.

    1. Martina, I hope the wind holds off a while so I can enjoy the blooms rather then them be blown from the trees.

  2. Well, the one is beautiful! That’s very strange about the others.

  3. I think it’s the weather Dawn…we had a slow start for spring here, our trees didn’t come out with leaves for a couple weeks after they should have. Hopefully next year will be better!

  6. I would put it down to the winter we’ve had, Dawn, though I don’t know that for sure. Everything seems a bit off this year. Were the buds all at the same stage on all the pear trees? Or are some budding a bit later?

    1. Claudia, I think the ones near our pond get a bit more wind so maybe that has something to do with it, but they all look about the same to me.

  7. hmmm…could have some sort of bug infestation. Hard to say. The others sure are gorgeous!
