Cup of Hot Chocolate

Have you been invited to a last minute Christmas party and haven’t had time to plan for a hostess gift? Well look no further, you can whip this up in a matter of minutes and be on your way to the party.  In our home we make a big batch of this Hot Chocolate Mix every winter and drink it all season long.

Hot Chocolate Ingredients

This is certainly not a mix if you are looking for a skinny recipe. My philosophy is hot cocoa is meant to be rich, creamy and loaded with calories. If you’re looking for a lite version just use hot water instead of hot milk.

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. You could also make it in a crockpot and have people use a ladle to dip it out.

I have questions: 1. Is powdered sugar the same as Confectioners sugar?
    2. What size boxes of the instant pudding? and 3. What type/product of cocoa do you suggest?
Thank you! This sounds delicious and dangerous!

    • Dawn says

      at

Debbie, 1. Yes it is the same. 2. You can use either size I like the large size better. 3. Hershey dark chocolate is my favorite. Make sure your water or milk is very hot to melt the pudding in the mix.

Kirsten, it depends on how big the mug is, but a normal coffee cup would need about 8-10 oz.

So I made this to give away as gifts this year and boy is it good! I tried a different recipe first and it just wasn’t creamy enough. The powdered creamer and pudding mixes really push this over the top. The only suggestions that I have is I would really recommend using some salt and much more sugar.
    * I used 1 1/2 tsp of regular table salt, but I think you could even use a bit more, fine grain salt would be best.
    * I also thought that it wasn’t near sweet enough and ended up using 6 cups of powdered sugar.

Next batch I’m going to try using some flavored creamer, perhaps hazelnut. Another thought is to use 1/4 c of instant espresso powder for a mocha flavor.

Thanks for the great recipe though…It is a keeper.
With the 6 cups of sugar I ended up filling about five-and-a-half 1 quart mason jars

I would like to make this to put in jars for holiday gifts. It sounds delicious!
How much of the mix is used for a 10 – 12 oz mug? I will need to make instruction labels
to attach to the gift jar.

Thank you for sharing a yummy recipe!
