House Plants From Gifted Cuttings
If youโve read the last couple of posts Iโve written, you know I commented on how pricey plants are in the store, so Iโve been asking friends and even strangers for cuttings once their plants need a trim.
I was a few towns over going through the car wash and decided to stop into a couple of vintage thrift stores. Hanging in the widow of one were these massive spider plants loaded with hundreds of babies.
The spider plants brought back memories for me of my Mom always growing them in our living room and I remember her snipping off the babies and starting new plants from them.
Well, I wandered around the vintage store and scored a signed piece of pottery and while chatting with the nice lady who owned the store. As I was checking out I got up the nerve to ask her if sheโd be willing to sell me a couple of cutting from the plants.
She had several colors and varieties and asked me which kind I wanted. I told her Iโd take whatever she was willing to let go. She was so nice she snipped off two babies, packaged them up for me, and told me what direction window they preferred to be in. I asked her what I owed her and she told me nothing, I could have them.
I was so grateful I brought them home and placed them in water inside my bluebird flower frog pottery piece until they started showing signs of rooting and then I placed them in a soil filled thrift store pottery piece.ย
I canโt believe Iโm even saying this but Iโve been contemplating making a macrame plant hanger to hang it from in front of the window. Back in the day when I was a kid, I remember doing macrame when it was popular in the 70โs. Well guess what itโs been back again for a while and I just may have to get on board with making it again.
The spider plants look so nice in your pottery and I’m loving the idea to make a macrame plant hanger for your window – you’ll need it for sure once your plant grows some babies.
I’m so glad you shared how you asked for the cuttings….I will try to work up some courage to do the same.
