How To Updated A Dining Table and Chairs With Paint
So this paint project has been on my to do list for almost a year and I’ve finally got around to doing it. I swapped out my farmhouse table, moved it into the office, and replaced it with this round dining table. Once I got it in place I noticed how horrible the wood floor color and the table stain color clashed. The floor has orange undertones, which I hate, and the table has yellow undertones, that I equally hate. Rather than strip it all down and end up with an entire new stain color that I hate I decided paint was the answer.
RUSTOLEUM SPRAY PAINT “NAVAJO WHITE” MAGNOLIA HOME “SHIPLAP” SHERWIN WILLIAM “FELTED WOOL”
You can see in the one picture, before it’s been painted, that I always kept a tablecloth on it. For the time being it was the only way to disguise the ugly color of it. I actually went back into my archives to find a before pic of the table and there wasn’t a single snap of a naked table.
Hubby was out of town last week so it was a good time to get to painting. I didn’t have to make dinner so I could paint in the evening when the mood hit me. I’m one of those people that have an ongoing to do list of things to get done but I have to be in the right frame of mind to tackle some of them. Anyone else like that? I don’t mind doing things I just want to do them when I’m good and ready.
Our state is still in lockdown and I’m not about to fight store owners about the mask wearing thing so I’ve got by with using up things I have around the house. This project was one of those use up what I have things…. The table base is “Felted Wool” the same color as our exterior basement walls, the table top was “Shiplap” a small sample pot I had, and the chairs are “Navajo White” a spray paint color that I had. If you’ve ever watched the show “Restored By The Fords”, this projected reminded me of that. All the different muddy white and off white tones that she uses.
I have to say I really like the way it turned out and I used up things I already had. I did give the table top a quick sanding by hand, it took me less than two minutes to do, but I figured that spot may be more prone to taking abuse so I took a few minutes to give it a quick once over, just to remove the shine. We never eat in our dining room so the table should hold up quite well. We always use our kitchen island to eat at or hubby works late so I grab a quick snack at dinner time.
I didn’t need the chairs that went with this table originally, the ones I’m using are the ones I purchased to go with the farmhouse table, so I’ve turned them into another project that I’ll be back to share with you soon. Oh and while I was at it I purchased a round rug to add underneath it all. I’ve always thought it would look better with a rug, and for a while I did have one there but it was rectangle and it just didn’t fit in my opinion.
I found this one online from rugs.com I always want to buy a bold rug with more color but I always talk myself out of it and that’s exactly what I did again. I played it safe and went with brown, black, gray, and white. It matches what we have but I wish I’d step out and go bold. Who knows maybe I’d hate it or there’s a possibility I’d love it. Maybe next time!
The table came out so nice, great color. I also like the rug you picked. Im like you I tend to go for more neutral colors. Im always changing things out too,so if I have more neutral colors the more I can change.
Have a blessed day.
The table looks awesome. Like a great professional job. Love the mix of colors.
It looks really nice. We tried to stain our oak table several years ago and it was a colossal hassle getting the tone right.
You said “Our state is still in lockdown and I’m not about to fight store owners about the mask wearing thing.” What does that mean? Do you not wear masks?
love those “colors”. looks so nice.
