SCORE! on my summer to do list I had: make myself a large birdhouse to add to the old close-line pole. I’d been looking online for some simple plans but hadn’t run across the right ones yet, and I’m glad I didn’t. While hubby and I were garage saleing we stumbled upon a painted furniture sale.
There were several XL birdhouse there and I didn’t even dare look at the prices, I knew they run well over $100 but I thought maybe I could get an idea on how to make one for myself so I decided to look. Insert happy dance here, the prices were so cheap I couldn’t believe the man could be making any money for his things.
This beauty only cost $20 and came mounted on an old barn ladder that I’m using in the house. I couldn’t have made a birdhouse this size for that amount and I also fell in love with the rusted vintage hardware attached to it. I wasn’t fond of the bright lime green color, it’s not that I didn’t like the color I just didn’t feel it fit in with the outdoor cabin colors.
I did give it a coat of paint and will be back to show you that along with where I had my son mount it. I think it was up a little to late this year for birds to actually nest in it but I know we’ll have renters next spring.
