Log Home’s Summer Porch

Summer Log Home Turquoise Porch | CreativeCainCabin.comFinally I’m back to show you what I decided to do on the front porch. Remember I was pondering over what fabric to recover everything with? Well, I really hate having to make new slips every year just to have the sun fade them so here’s what I did.

Summer Log Home Turquoise Porch | CreativeCainCabin.comI used drop cloths for all the wicker funtiture. Love using them, you can wash them over and over, bleach them and they never fade from the sun. It’s a perfect fabric choice for me. The only piece I recovered in a color was the swing (which makes into a full size bed by the way).

Summer Log Home Turquoise Porch | CreativeCainCabin.comI purchased 2 shower curtains, the material kind not the plastic kind, in two different colors and made an easy slip. I pulled two of the colors from the pillows when picking the shower curtains, one for the front and one for the back so now the cushion is reversible. I’ve done this before and the shower curtains don’t seem to fade either, maybe it’s the polyester in them that holds it’s color better.

Summer Log Home Turquoise Porch | CreativeCainCabin.comI already had the drop clothes so it took only one trip to town for shower curtains. I spent 1 hour sewing everything, I think that was pretty good and I got a whole new look.

Summer Log Home Turquoise Porch | CreativeCainCabin.comI took the pictures, just the way our porch always looks, even the big ugly grill on the porch. But I love food on the grill so it will have to stay. It has a charcoal side and a propane side, I’ve never used the propane side I like how things taste so much better cooked with charcoal, and I don’t notice it taking any longer.

Summer Log Home Turquoise Porch | CreativeCainCabin.comNext on our list of things to do is enclose the ceiling on both porches. I already know what we will be using, so stay tuned for that……

Summer Log Home Turquoise Porch | CreativeCainCabin.comThanks for dropping by the cabin today and have a wonderful Sunday.

  6. Everything looks wonderful.

I am grappling with the issue of my cushion covers fading and still haven’t come up with the best solution for us.

Do you get mosquitos during the summer? I seem to remember that being an issue when we were visiting friends at their home, situated right on a lake, in Minnesota.

    1. Carol, the mosquitos depends on the rainfall. We haven’t had hardly any the last two years, but some years they are so thick they could carry you away. So far nothing yet this year.

  7. Good Sunday Morning Dawn. Ok you did a fabulous job on your porch cushions. The porch looks so cozy and inviting. One day you may come out there and see me napping on that swing. Just sayin!!!! Have a great Sunday.

I think I could spend hours sitting on your porch and reading or just observing the surrounding nature Dawn..I also prefer cooking on a charcoal grill..you can’t get that great flavor from gas..

    1. Nancy, thanks for stopping in. I wish I had more time to just sit on the porch. I need to take advantage of it before the mosquitos start coming out.
