How to Make A Custom Cell Phone Case for Pennies
If you’re looking for an inexpensive gift for Valentine’s Day or any other holiday, you can do what I did and make a custom phone case. You don’t need any fancy supplies, and you can make them yourself for pennies and give your phone a new look every day if you choose. I’ve had a bulky, unattractive case on my phone for years and decided it was boring and I wanted to bling it up without purchasing several pricey cases. So here’s what I did….
First order a clear phone case from Amazon (one that fits your model) or head to a local store and pick one up. If you have an older phone you will need to order it, I found stores only tend to keep the newest models accessories in stock. Plus if you order it you pay around $3, where they run about $20 in the store. I still have an iphone 4S so this is the cover I picked up.
When you open the package there will be a template that mimics a paper phone, don’t throw that away it will be used as a template to make all the fun new covers for your phone. All you need to buy is scrapbook paper in the fun designs and colors that catch your eye. You will also need a pencil and a pair of scissors. Here’s how super duper easy it is.
1. Place the phone template inside the clear cover and trace around any openings that will need to be cut out (in my case it was the camera lens).
2. Cut out the openings and place the template onto your scrapbook paper…..trace…..cutout…..stand back and admire. (I find small scissors work best).
Simple right? And now you can have tons of fun new phone covers. I change mine out everyday to either match what I’m wearing or just pick a fun one just because.
Just a reminder: These make fun inexpensive gifts (Valentine, Easter, Christmas, Birthday). I have a new addiction for sure.
It’s a fun way to get the designer look for almost nothing.

This is such a cute idea! My smart phone is much smarter than I am, but I’m pretty sure I could make this! Thanks for sharing it – I’m pinning!
Thank you for the Pin Angie, and yes you could easily do it your so creative.
These are so cute! I want the iPhone 6 but haven’t taken the time to get one…as soon as I do I’m going to try this. Thanks!
Ann, I want the 6+ my eyes are old and I need the HUGE screen. LOL
What a great idea – pinning it and dreaming of an iPhone 6!
Barb, I would love the 6+ but refuse to upgrade because I have no plan and hate getting locked into one. I normally wait until someone has a used one and get it that way.
I have an iPhone 3 that hubby got me. It was a refurbished one. I am on an inexpensive plan that I don’t want to risk changing. So far the upgrades available through the plan haven’t been what I want. I still love my phone even though it can be a bit slow and I can’t do good selfies ๐
Barb, I can’t do selfies either, I always capture a double chin or up the nose view. LOL
What a fun idea. I am going to look for a clear plastic case for my phone.
Carol, they normally have them at Walmart.
Well, just too cute. Pinning ๐
Thank you for the Pin Laura ๐
This is so clever! On my way to Amazon now! ๐
Thanks for sharing.

Kris
Kris, I change my look every day. You’d think I could find something better to do with my time. LOL
I love these!…they are way too cute!!!…such a great idea Dawn!
Thanks Shirley, I love mine.
I would think that you could also use some of the lighter weight quilting fabrics !!!! What a fun idea. I’ll be telling my granddaughters about this one.
Betsy, I notice with mine that even the thicker weight cardstock makes a tight fit so fabric may be thinner than paper and be a better choice.
This is amazing, Dawn! I tend to never buy cases because they are so expensive but now I can finally have one…..and a custom one at that. Thanks for sharing. Pinning!!!!
Mary Beth, thank you for the pin and yes you now can have a new look every day.
Another great idea. Love it.
Thanks Lesley, it’s fun to have a new look everyday.
OK, that is the coolest! What a great idea!
Thanks Karen and the best part it’s thrifty and functional.
Super cute!!!!
Thank you Debbie:)
So cute, but not very much protection if you drop you expensive cell phoneโน๏ธ
Linda, I’ve dropped my hundreds of times and nothings ever happened to it. Now with my iphone 6+ it’s a different story, maybe because it’s bigger it makes a difference.
