Melamine & Mums
I don’t know about you, but this is the time of year that I start itching for spring. We’ve had a cold winter without much snow but I’m looking forward to longer days of light, we seldom see the sun in Michigan during the winter, I’m ready to do my workouts outside, and I want to ride a bike. (For those of you who know me that’s a challenge in itself, I’m very uncoordinated and fall off a bike often). But I can dream, can’t I? I see myself soaring down our country road, stopping to pick wildflowers,… without tipping over.
Anyway I was ready to shed the winter colors I had going on in the house and start adding some bright fun colors to the mix and for some reason I have a thing for melamine these days. They’re such an inexpensive way to add whimsy to a table without spending big bucks on new dinnerware.
My hubby and son always reach for melamine before any other dish in the house. I’m not sure if they think the other dishes are too fancy, or if they’re attracted to the bright colors too. I’m still enjoying keeping the turquoise in our home so while at Target I spotted the white with red polka dots, and the turquoise square dinner plates, so for a couple of dollars I picked them up. I’m now so glad I did the whole table just makes me smile when I look at it.
I don’t know if you have a Target near you but they have some stylish things at reasonable prices. Target and TJMaxx are my go to stores when I’m looking for home decorating items, it’s slim pickin’s where I’m from. No Pottery Barn, Ballards, or such near me.
Doesn’t this just scream happy? It looks like a summer picnic.
It is very colorful and happy looking!
I agree Ellie and I’m loving it right now.
Thank you Dawn! I live in Green Bay, WI and haven’t seen much of the sun lately either. After the big Packer loss last weekend and no sunshine this week, this post made me smile and want to jump in the car and run to Target (two blocks away) and SHOP for some new eye popping colored dinnerware. Thanks for the pick me up!
Beth you better run to Target and get you some fun colorful Melamine.
Your post today made me smile. So fresh and pretty with color. Looks heavenly Dawn.
Kris
Kris, so glad you had a smile now don’t look out your window or you’ll see snow again.
Bright and cheerful Dawn!
Thank you Nancy it sure keeps my spirits up seeing some cheery colors.
I hate to taunt you but we have been having Spring like weather all week. It was 63 degrees yesterday with bright sunshine. The caveat to that is we are really in a drought and if we don’t get some rain and snow soon this summer is going to be a disaster for California. But since I cannot change the weather I don’t fret it and just enjoy. ๐
Pamela, lucky you!!! It is snowing here today but inside my home it looks bright and cheery ๐
What a fun and happy table setting. I love to use what I have!!!
xo Kris
Kris is so much better than buying new all the time.
IT looks so wonderfully summery, Dawn. I am ready for a summer picnic. xo Laura
Laura if only this snow would go away.
I love Target, I have a gift card just burning a whole in my wallet.Lol1
Rondell you better run right out and spend it LOL.
It certainly does scream happy!….love the red silverware too!
Shirley Oh I forgot about the silverware it’s a fun pop of color right?
The melamine at Target always catches my eye and I have a few pieces! TJMaxx and Target are my go-to stores as well. Oh, I could take the ferry to Seattle and battle the traffic to end up at all those great stores like Pottery Barn but I prefer my own quiet county. ๐
Barbara I know what you mean sometimes it’s just now worth the hassle plus you get to keep some cash in your pocket that way.
Your table setting is so cute and cheery. I really love the colours and style. Just got the news a couple of weeks ago that Target is going to close here in Canada…all 131 stores by May 2015. They have not been in Canada for 2 years yet. We live 30 minutes from the nearest town and Target was my fave store to get dรฉcor. I had better hurry and find me some Melamine…also your mums go great with your table setting.
Cheryl oh no that will be horrible it’s a great store to shop in. Great prices for what you get.
