Raised Garden Bed
We actually hit 67 degrees here so Hubby and I jumped right on getting a raised garden bed built.
I can’t believe the price of lumber. The box is 20 ft long and 5 ft wide.
The lumber was on sale and still cost $70.
The area is where I had my Garden In a Bag last year. (You can see that by clicking the link)
I decided I wanted something more permanent, and eye pleasing.
We have all the top soil on site. We stockpiled what was dug out of the pond and will use it for our other garden areas.
Luckily we have the equipment to move it. I’m not sure if I would be so eager if I had to do it all by hand with a wheelbarrow.
My plan it to plant my herb garden and my strawberry patch in the box.
It will be nice to step out our back door and be welcomed by the scent of fresh herbs and strawberries.
I plan on putting in a huge vegetable garden this year and would love for it all to be raised beds but not so sure I want to incur the huge expense.
Who knows after I plant the orchard I may decided raised beds are easier and go for it.

I really want a raised garden. Lucky you. Lumber and everything else is so costly.
We’re getting snow right now Dawn, so I wouldn’t put anything in just yet. I think a raised bed will be perfect next to your house, what a great investment. Have a good weekend.
It will be a good investment. I love my herb garden out the back door. So handy to the kitchen (confession: I don’t utilize my herbs enough! plans to do better!). I nearly always plant the veggie garden in raised beds. However I do mine as big heaped rows in the garden, using the furrowing attachment with my antique tiller 😉 I love the idea of having them all contained in a wood frame – but yes, wood is expensive. Looks like things are coming along great! Lumber is unbelievable expensive. My mother and father are building a home and it has cost them a fortune just in materials.
Dawn, if Leo had a piece of machinery like yours, he’d be pushing dirt around all day. And for what reason? Just because he could! You will love your raised bed. How lucky you are to have all the dirt available. Dirt is unbelievably expensive, too!
Dawn-I am sooo jealous…not only of your raised bed but of your temperature. We will be lucky to hit 30º here today-but they are promising warmer weather for next week.
I had raised beds in my last house and absolutely loved them. They had been put in by someone long before we bought the property so I was lucky. xo Diana
Now that the work is done, let the fun begin. I am getting a couple of raised planters soon for vegetables. I am ready for the growing season to begin.

WOW, you really pulled out the big equipment for this project!~!!!!! YOu will love love love your raised beds. I have them and they are so much easier that a big garden plot. I’m posting my raised bed garden plans next week. I pack them full and use an organic weed preventer so there is minimal weeding. I am so happy for your new gardening journey!!!!

Dawn, We had a family donate the materials for a raised garden at the Hospice I work for and then a Eagle Scout came and put it together and added the soil for his Eagle Scout project. It is really great we planted tomatoes, green peppers and basil last year. We are getting ready to do our summer planting, I enjoy harvesting our bounty and serving it to my patients. Ours look exactly like yours. Good Luck on lots of produce.
I bet you are so excited, i would love to have a raised bed garden; we just don’t have the room. I am very ready for some warm weather.
I’m so excited to see how your garden looks when things start growing. We are doing much more of a garden here than we’ve ever done before. The space was already there with the sprinkler system all ready, so The Man has added lots of BS (& some steer manure, too….lol!), tilled it, & we’ve started planting. I’ll have to do a post about it. I wish ours was raised, but it would have to be with bricks or blocks. Wood is just too inviting here for creepy crawlers like roaches, spiders & scorpions — oh my!
