Talk Till Dawn – 1

Creative Cain Cabin's Talk Till Dawn Series

I’m excited to share with you a new series I’m starting called, “Talk Till Dawn”, I want this to be about my everyday life, the things I’m reading, eating, my everyday ups and down, along with photos that I’ve taken over the week.

I haven’t decided yet how often this will be, right now I’m just going to get it going and see what comes of it. I encourage you to share with me similar situations and we can all support one another.

My life and home is far from perfect even though I always share with you pretty home decor picture. Now from time to time I’ll give you a look at how things can get out of control like everyone else’s life.

Right now I’m loving our Michigan snow storms (if the bitter cold is what you like Michigan is the place to be right now). It’s given me the chance to catch up on some reading. I love to read, but seldom make the time for it. With all the snow it makes me want to curl up with a good book.

What’s your opinion, paper book or digital? I thought I’d never go digital, I like the feel of a book in my hand, but it’s much easier to just download and read right on my ipad. I hate to admit it but I’m a convert and digital is winning in my book (something I thought would never happen). It’s just to easy to brows Amazon and find something interesting to read.

Right now I’m into historical fiction and have been totally engrossed in the following titles and recommend them all:

Beneath a Scarlet Sky:   by Mark Sullivan
Wives of War:  by Soraya M. Lane
Anna Karenina:  by Leo TolstoySo Much Owed:  by Jean Grainger
Promises to Keep Book Series:  by Shayne Parkinson

I also got a hair brained idea (this happens often by the way) of getting braces on my teeth. I never wore the as a kid as my teeth are very straight, but with age I’m noticing movement and it really bothers me. I’m not sure if it’s just vanity on my part but I’d like my teeth to at least stay as they are now.

So I sent away for the online kit where you do the impressions and they send you new trays every to weeks that move your teeth. Look at the crazy pics it had me do and send over to them. This can be your laugh of the day, by the way this is stretching my comfort zone sharing these photos!

After doing the impressions, getting them all boxed up and ready to send back to Smile Direct, I broke a tooth Christmas Day (and the dentist doesn’t open again until Jan 8th) while eating a piece of chocolate. How in the heck does that happen? So now I’m waiting to get a tooth fixed, will redo the impressions and then start the process. Once they receive my photos I will get back a digital image of what my teeth will look like once I’m done with the process.

Smile Direct says 4-8 months to complete the process (and I have talked with people that said that’s the case and they’ve also used Smile Direct) so I’m praying that’s the time line. I’m really not looking forward to wearing them for 23 hours a day for months, but it must be done if I want the changes.

I have a new food addiction, is popcorn a food? It’s the Boom Chicka Pop sea salt popcorn. I love it and could eat an entire bag myself every day. You’ll learn if you follow along with “Talk Till Dawn” I get on a kick and eat the same thing for a while and then I drop it like a bad habit and switch to something else. Right now though popcorn is it.

Can we talk menopause??? I’m past that 50 mark and all of a sudden I can’t quit gaining weight, my butt is out of control and it’s just recently happened. I blame it all on menopause nothing in my eating habits have changed. Anyone else’s struggle with this? I’m absolutely hating it…. I feel like I went to bed one size and woke up a different size, and not a smaller size like I’d like. I’ve had no other struggles with menopause to speak of and I’m not happy with this one ๐Ÿ™

Our business is making some major changes for 2018….our sons are taking over the family business, we own an environmental company, and my hubby will take over the consulting part of it so he’ll no longer be in the field doing the work. It’s time for him to retire and let the younger generation do the hard work. I’m nervous and it has nothing to do with the boys capabilities it’s just change and I don’t always deal well with change. It’s hard for me to feel responsible now for their livelihood, up until now we’ve only had to worry about supporting ourselves (and keep our employees working). I need to get over it and move forward, but change is scary for me!

Michigan Winter Stone Wall

If you read back a few post you’ll remember I mentioned I’m looking for new furniture, well hubby and I started the process after Christmas. I like to shop at local owned mom and pop shops. I feel the quality of the furniture is much better than the big box stores and the prices are always fantastic. We have a local furniture store we’ve been dealing with for 30 years. I used to replace our living room furniture every three years, just because I was tired of it, but when I went to the slipcovered type it lasted me longer with being able to do color changes. What we have now is 8 years old and I’m over it.

I’ve decided to make our living room more family friendly with furniture that reclines, I can’t believe I’m doing this I’ve always been opposed to big bulky, manly furniture. Many of you have asked me if we don’t use our living room where do we relax? We have a whole level of our home that you’ve never seen, so that’s the spot.

I was looking for vintage Morris Style chairs to have recovered but with no luck we’ve decided to buy 2 modern day Morris Stye chairs that recline. They fit the look I was going for and also made hubby happy because they recline. We had to compromise…he was looking at huge overstuffed recliners that made me cringe. Not only does the scale not fit our house, they’re just an eye sore in my opinion. (If you like them go for it but I’m just not a fan). Here is a photo of the chairs, now I just have to pick a fabric choice. Oh no another decision…..

Recliner Chair

The order will take 3-4 weeks so I still have time to find a new sofa. I think hubby will be fine with whatever I pick for that since he’ll stake his claim on a recliner anyway. I was so set on getting updated slipcovered furniture again but once I started looking and learning more about how fabric is stain resistant now I’m leaning towards something different. For a minute there I thought the chair situation was going to be a battle, but I had to keep telling myself that I had to compromise and couldn’t always have things my own way. I was so happy to find the exact chairs I wanted and he agreed they were comfortable. “Whew” dodged that bullet.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to me today, please share with me what’s going on right now in your life, and remember to come back soon and “Talk Till Dawn”

I really enjoyed “Talk Till Dawn”. Thanks for sharing! I have been researching recliners for a year, really like your choice.

    1. Cheryl I’m glad I found a recliner that doesn’t look like a recliner. That was a challenge and also a challenge to find one that hubby would like so this is a thumbs up in my book.

  2. I love this new series! I too have a hard time with change, it takes me a while to warm up to a new change. Itโ€™s a new year so Iโ€™m going to try to imbrace new changes this year.

    1. Carolyn, I need time for change to sink in, if it gets sprung on my I don’t do well at all. I’m just praying all goes well with the business and all my worries will have been for nothing.

  3. I have hot flashes, which has greatly influenced how I now dress, which is in layers that can easily be removed and still look good; I’m rarely able to wear scarves (they make me too hot) so I have added some new pieces of jewelry to accessorize my wardrobe. For the last 3 years I have been doing Classical Stretch by Miranda Esmonde-White 5 days a week…it’s great for toning, preventing joint pain, and keeping my weight down. Ever since menopause, I weigh the most I should for my height and frame size. I usually gain about 5 pounds over the winter holidays. I don’t diet, but I do make leaner choices to lose those extra pounds. I’ve learned to dress my figure differently. The biggest challenge for me is the stomach area. I find this blog by Imogen Lamport to be a great help https://insideoutstyleblog.com/
I’ve been pinning a lot of recipes and trying some of them out. I have added some fashion ideas to my board. I’ve also spent some time deleting old pins that are no longer relevant. My husband and I have taken some 20 minute winter walks – short due to the cold winter temps.

    1. Jen so far no hot flashes for me, and I hope they stay away lol. I used to walk 5 miles a day, every day but haven’t since my walking partner is having hip trouble ๐Ÿ™ I’ll check out the blog recommendation. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I like the chairs. Recliners that donโ€™t look like recliners.

    1. Becky, exactly and that’s why I love them!

  5. I was always so trim and fit before menopause. And you’re right – you go to bed one night and when you wake up, you’re in someone else’s body. I’ve gained substantial weight, with hot flashes and a thermostat stuck on high as additional consequences. Like the person above, I can’t wear scarves, have to layer so I can remove clothing. Fortunately, I can tolerate cold weather much better than before menopause which is a good thing, especially as I speak right now in Indiana where it’s been sub-zero wind chills for days and days.
I love your new format – the things that make up an everyday life.
Also love your new recliners – I purchased one shortly before Christmas that is very similar. I’m sure you’ll love it.
I bit the bullet and got braces on my teeth when I was 55. Got some strange looks but even though my teeth were straight, they corrected an overbite that was wearing away my bottom teeth. However, as time has passed, I’m noticing that my teeth are moving in not-so-attractive ways with gaps where they shouldn’t be. Not sure what I’m going to do about it.
Keep posting on your blog and keep us entertained as you usually do. We all look forward to reading it.

  6. I need a new cat-resistant recliner. I totally forgot about Morris chairs. Thank you so much! That would fit in my condo much easier than the huge hulks currently marketed as recliners. I do like Talk Till Dawn.

  7. Love the new series, Dawn!! Cold is cold!! we are in Fla for this month and this morning it is 38…crazy!! I like the recliner but an wondering about the not so soft arm rests…just my thought…. hopefully now that hubby is stepping back some, you can take some time off for yourselves!!

    1. Jeanie, I can’t believe FL was even getting snow….now that’s cold. I picked up another recliner too so hubby can have the one without the wooden arms if he likes. I was tired of all my furniture matching I was looking for a gathered over time feel. The new stuff comes the end of the month!

  8. Hi Dawn – this new series is a Winner in my book! Do I need to subscribe to it or will I receive because I’m already a fan? Jan

    1. Jan, yes you will get it if you are already subscribed.

I love this new series Dawn, really enjoyed it and hope to read another one soon. I’m wondering too if I should subscribe to to these newer posts? I love your chairs and I’m sure your husband will enjoy them also, I’m sure they will go well with everything you have. Yes, losing weight during menopause is the pits, but I keep trying ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Rondell, I’m thinking of doing the new series once a month so let me do it for a while and see if I need odd a new option to just subscribe to them. New furniture will be here at the end of the month!

That’s great Dawn, hope you find furniture that you love!
