Talk Till Dawn – 6&7

I’m excited to share with you a new series I’m starting called, “Talk Till Dawn”, I want this to be about my everyday life, the things I’m reading, eating, my everyday ups and down, along with photos that I’ve taken over the week.

I haven’t decided yet how often this will be, right now I’m just going to get it going and see what comes of it. I encourage you to share with me similar situations and we can all support one another.

My life and home is far from perfect even though I always share with you pretty home decor picture. Now from time to time I’ll give you a look at how things can get out of control like everyone else’s life.Summer Flower Arrangement Using Daisy's, Black and Blue Salvia, and Cora Bells in an Enamelware Pitcher | CreativeCainCabin.comWow, where did June go? I’ve been so busy I’ve missed out on writing episode 6 so today I’m going to combine Talk Till Dawn episode 6 & 7 to get you all caught up on the cabins happenings.

Tomato Plant

For the month of June my Mom and Stepdad vacationed with us, they had my brothers twins graduating so they wanted to get here earlier enough to see that and we were hoping the weather would be cooler than the temps they’d been dealing with in Florida. Most of the time we had great weather, but for a week out of that time it was unbearable heat along with 100% humidity. They didn’t seem to mind it but it was dreadful to me. If it goes above 72 I’m hating it, so the high 90’s is not for me.

Well I’m loving it, I can mow in no time at all and it looks so nice. A zero turn really gives it that golf course look, with all it’s nice straight lines cut in the grass. I’m not to excited about mowing when it’s so hot, but it has to be done.

My boys also brought me 7 yards of mulch to add to our landscaping at the cabin and at the guest house. It always looks so nice and fresh to add a new layer of mulch around the plants and it also works fantastic for weed controls and moisture retention. So it’s a win, win all around. I pick black mulch, I think it’ what works best with color of our home.

I did get all the bird houses up that I purchased at the garden art sale. I can’t wait for new birds to find them!

Junk Farmhouse Birdhouse Art. Don't throw away your scraps, recycle them into birdhouses for your landscaping. For some reason the deer are picking on just one of the three hydrangea plants. Two are nice size (newly planted last year) and blooming and one they keep eating down to the ground. I guess I’m going to have to make some kind of wire structure to put over it to keep them from using it as a midnight snack.

Adding Fresh Mulch to the Landscaping

I’ve also been busing drawing the blueprints for my sons barn/home conversion and can’t wait to help them with the whole project. My wheels are constantly turning with new ideas. The space isn’t huge but he and his girlfriend gave me a list of things they wanted and I went off that to draw what they wanted. I seriously could do this for people all day long. I love seeing how I can turn a blank space into someone’s dream.

I’ll be picking up more hours at work, I’ll be working during the week instead of weekends and that will free up more time to help the kids on the house build on the weekends.

Raised Garden Bed

I have to tell you about Hubby and my oldest Sons caving trip….. We have a client that’s a spelunker, he was at the cabin for dinner one evening and talked hubby and our son into going on a trip to Kentucky, dropping into a cave, and exploring it for 10 hours. I don’t think my men folk had any idea what they were getting into. They first went to a local spot where they could practice ascending and descending into a cave just to get the hang of the equipment and how it all worked. They thought it was pretty easy, so off to Kentucky they headed for the weekend.

Cave TripAfter dropping down 80ft, into a cave they spend the next 8-9 hours crawling on their bellies, squeezing through crevices, and teetering on ledges. Only to reach the farthest part that’s ever been explored, and then having to turn around and do it all over again to get out of the cave.

Cave Exploring TripMy hubby said it was the hardest thing he’s ever done physically in his life and you have to remember he’s 50, so maybe he’s to old for this stuff and even my firefighter son who’s fit and young was physically exhausted by the time they seen the light of day again.

Cave Exploring TripThey learned after getting out that it’s the hardest cave in all of Kentucky to do, and they are 2 of only 9 people that have ever been able to even do it. I was so relived to get the call saying they’d made it out (and all in one piece). Now they’re talking about do a different cave at the end of the month that they’ll need a wet suit for also, must be some diving involved.

Cave Trip

I told hubby it must be like having a baby….you forget how horrible the experience was and you’re stupid enough to do it all over again, lol. Just saying it’s not an activity for me. No way would I have the physical strength to do any of it. Just leave me at home with a good book and I’m good!

Decorating a Living Room in a Log Home Using Lawn FurnitureI feel like I’m all over the place with my talk this month, but I have a lot to tell you. In a past episode I shared with you the photos of that crazy contraption I had in my mouth while doing impressions of my teeth for braces. Well after doing 3 sets of impressions, Smile Direct said they couldn’t use them and I’d have to come into their office for a digital scan.

The nearest place to do it was 3 hours away one way and I hate to drive so I’ve been procrastinating for the past 6 months about doing it. Lucky me, I procrastinated so long one opened an hour from me, so I had had my scan done this week and should receive all my liners in about 4 weeks to straighten my teeth.

Pixie Cut With Dyed Gray HairI have really straight teeth anyway, and never wore braces as a kid but with age they’re starting to shift a little so I figured I’d better correct that before it gets any worse. The estimated time for wearing them looks like about 6 months, so we’ll see. I’m ready to get started and get it over with though. The downfall is I have to wear them 23 hours a day, and after that I’ll need a retainer at night to keep them from shifting back.

Until next time take care and thank you for spending the time talking till dawn with me today!

Men folk sure have indurance. I could never do something like that. I don’t think that I would have the strength for it. Your flowers are doing really well in this heat. That is awesome that you can help your son & girlfriend with plans for their new home….that would be exciting !
