Throw Pillow Limit
THE GREAT PILLOW DEBATE IN OUR HOME IS HOW MANY THROW PILLOWS ARE TO MANY TO HAVE ON THE SOFA? IS THERE A LIMIT OR RULE THAT I’M NOT AWARE OF?
The great throw pillow debate seems to be an ongoing thing in our home. My hubby and sons see no use in throw pillow. Who the heck said they have a use anyway?
They dont even have respect for these beauties. I cringe when they flop down on them and squish them or throw them on the floor. Who sits on a throw pillow anyway? I think furniture pieces are made that much comfier with throw pillows. It seems like furniture is deep these days and I like a pillow behind my back to make me sit up straight.
I decided to try no pillows and several pillows, stand back and take a few photos, and decided what looked best. I may be partial but to me more throw pillows are better.
No ones home much to even sit on the sofa anyway but if someone drops by I like it to look warm and inviting and pillows do just that. For me my least favorite look is two matching pillows on each end of the sofa. It reminds me of furniture store display. And more often than not they have the worst pillows paired with the sofa.
I do have a pillow tip though. If you love throw pillows and like to own several to change out with the seasons or holidays, purchase pillow covers. They take up very little room and you can change them out more frequently.
I’ve recently downsized my throw pillow stash and only kept covers in neutral colors. That way I can swap them out and just add a pop of color every now and again with a seasonal color. It’s easy to get a new look that way without needing a ton of storage space.
So what’s your throw pillow limit, and which look do you like best here today? Is there such thing as the throw pillow police? Ya know like the fashion police!
Why do men think they have to control EVERYTHING? Your pillows look just great and the photo of the bare couch with no pillows on it is just pitiful. Keep the pillows on, remind them that YOU are in charge of pillows, and let them grumble. By the way, I agree with you – two pillows on each end
Pat, I know that bare sofa is just sad I had to add a throw and a bowl of pretzels to dress it up a little for the photo, LOL.
Your sofa looks much warmer looking with the pillows…not without…where do you buy just the pillow covers without the pillows?
Jeanie, I buy covers from Hobby Lobby, Pottery Barn, Ikea, Etsy, or make my own.
I have 5 pillows on our sofa right now – 2 blues, 2 whites and a little blue pillow with a white whale. But, all the pillows in our living room get tossed around from chairs to the sofa and back again.
As to yours, I think the looks are all fun.
Carol, I wish someone would toss them to another piece of furniture hear but nope they go on the floor. I guess I can’t control everything!
Dawn, throw pillows are a couch/sofa fashion accessory! Pillows add to furniture and do convey comfort and are welcoming you to sit down. I enjoy adding new pillow covers to change up the look with the seasons. Keep those pillows out and enjoy their style!
Laura, Oh ya I’m keeping them the men are not winning with this one, LOL.
I have a bunch of different throw pillow covers that I swap out when the mood strikes….it’s so much easier to store covers than pillows!!
Debbie you’re right it’s much easier to store covers.
My hubby and I have this “discussion” all the time…so much so..he calls our family room “pillow land”. And like you…I cringe when anyone flops on them….I’d rather they set them on the floor! I only use feather inserts and purchase pillow covers, as opposed to cushions already covered. Like you said, it’s so much easier when decorating for the changing seasons.
I admit….I have a decorator pillow addiction!!

Charlotte, pillow land, lol. Glad to know I’m not the only one who hates to see the throw pillows crushed. We may have to start a throw pillow addiction class LOL.
