Grama Red Fashion Plate

I had to share this photo with all of you (excuse the quality its from a phone) its my stylish 96 year old Grama Red all decked out to go to lunch. I arrived at her place for a lunch date, we were driving to meet my dad and two aunts for a bite to eat and I got a chuckle out of her outfit. I told her no one would ever guess she’s 96 she’s dressed more like she’s 26 with her pants in her boots and fashionable long sweater. But the best part was when we got in the car; she whips out here mirrored aviator sunglasses and puts them on. I just cracked up laughing. How does someone her age that’s considered legally blind know what’s in style?

Her whole life she’s been up to the minute with what’s in and follows right along with fashion. I always remember her wearing very high heels when I was a kid and had big RED hair; the hair hasn’t changed as you can see. Ya just gotta love her spunk and how darn cute she is all gussied up and I thought you might enjoy seeing her again too.

Kathleen I sure hope I have some of her motivation when I’m that age. She has big plans for when she hits 100, so I pray that happens.

Dawn, your grandmother looks great and I would have never guessed her age either. I remember years ago when our family doctor told my mom as we age the most important things you can dofor yourself is to get up and move, some kind of real exercise, be social bc we are social beings and need each other, and to have a purpose, a reason to get up in the morning. I truly believe that and it looks like your grandmother is doing a good job of staying active. What a blessing and example to your family.

I figured! I am also in a true log home (as opposed to hybrid) and it is refreshing to follow your posts. It is nice to see a knotty house mixed with modern elements (like a white shaker kitchen). It is SO HARD to find resources out there for inspiration! Log Home Living is so outdated (they can’t even get high res photography!?) Timber frame living is more modern, but they are of course always showing hybrid homes. The magazines are all ads and floor plans for the dreamers. Very frustrating! So when I recently came upon your blog, I was very excited! Thanks for all the work you do and the time you take to share it!

I had the same issue when we started to build, couldn’t find any white kitchen in a log home out there. By the time we got to the kitchen I had to put the brakes on and demand no more wood….no more stain…. The kitchen is my favorite room just because it’s a little different. I’ve never been into the lodge look so I guess my house is very different than most. It’s just ordinary no huge log mansion like in all the magazines.

Diana she has a lot of stories to tell and when I get her alone she always spills the beans. I so enjoy my alone time with her. She lived through some pretty rough time and raised 5 kids on her own…..ho, the stories she has.

I think it’s the red hair. My 92 year old Aunt Joyce had red hair and she’s a spunky old lady now. I hope to be as spunky when I reach that age, although I’m not a redhead. Your Gram is adorable!

What a wonderful blessing to have such life and a life at 96! God bless her! We just lost my husband’s mom in August. She was 95 and also had that zeal for life and was one of this world’s most beautiful people inside and out. We miss her terribly, but was so blessed to have her for so long and to have such wonderful memories forever.

Aw Susan so sorry for your loss but I bet you could tell some story too that you’ve been told from your hubbys Mom. That was such an era with so much change. I just love to sit and talk with old people and could do it for hours.
