Winter Decorating Using Navy Blue & Rust

Decorating for Winter Using Navy Blue and Rust, Orange and BlueI’m at a loss in the decorating category. Christmas decor is down, I don’t decorate inside for Valentine’s day but I did need a winter transition color to use before decorating for spring. I went to my pillow stash fist to see what I had that hasn’t been used, and while I was tossing pillows out looking for something new a Navy Blue pillow landed next to a Rust pillow and I said to myself, that’s it. I haven’t used that color combination before and it looked very pretty together.

Winter Decorating Using Navy Blue & RustNext I went into the kitchen to look through my dishes, runners, silverware, and dishcloths to find anything in navy and rust and here’s what I found. I can’t believe I haven’t used this color combination before in my home but I haven’t, so this will be the colors I’m using for the rest of winter.

Winter Decorating Using Navy Blue & RustI even have things to decorate the living room and bedroom so every room in the house will match. I decided to take notice the next day while out shopping and apparently navy blue is trending for 2017, Target and Homegoods both had displays in the decor area using navy blue. It seems to be paired with a salmon tone but I think rust is close enough. Who knew I was following a color trend and didn’t even know it?

Winter Decorating Using Navy Blue & RustI was just looking for something new to use that hadn’t already been done in our home. For some reason once all the Christmas stuff is packed away the place always looks so bare. I was ready for it to go though, to me it all feels like dust gatherers and it’s all so hard to clean around. I was happy to move furniture and give the floor a good mopping and dusting again.

Winter Decorating Using Navy Blue & RustI’ll share the living room with you next using my winter color combo. I need to share with you my pillow stash some day, it’s a department store on it’s own, but I do believe the cheapest was to get a new look is by using throw pillows.

Cheryl why yes I do, anytime I can use what I have. I have no idea why I haven’t used those color together before but I haven’t. I’ll have to remember it for another time.

This is my everyday color combination. I live in the Southwest and I love how these two colors pop. Your winter décor looks fabulous.

Roseann, yes those are perfect Southwest colors. Do you ever do the turquoise with the orange? That’s a beautiful combo too.

Hi Dawn, our home looks a bit bare, so new beds and blankets for our little dogs brighten our living room. Blue, rust and gold looks good together, I can’t see salmon, but I need to go to Target to use my gift card, so I’ll check it out. It is nice to shop in your own home first. I love your dining table, especially the spring branches in the pitcher.
    Blessings, Kathleen in Az

Kathleen, Aw I bet the dogs are loving their new thing. I know my dog loves her new comfy bed. I’ve never tried gold with navy and rust and I don’t think I even have that color in my arsenal but I’ll check. I really hate to buy new when I can always find something in my stash to make it work.

One of my favorite color combos is navy and orange.
As I sit here reading your blog, I am wearing navy jammie pants, a navy tee and an orange sweater. Perhaps I can come over and strike a mannequin pose at your table.

    HI Dawn!
    New subscriber here.

Put the Bokhara carpet over the living room w-2-w awhile back. Its colors are rust, dark blue, gold and creamy white! Been trying to find rust, blue & gold whatevers for the room and it’s only recently that I’ve seen much in those colors. (I live back-of-beyond and it’s over an hour to the city for HG and other good stores).

The colors are going to be great with the carpet in what will be my boho /cottage style LR. My tastes have changed from traditional to this wacky combo, but since I’m old people will just think it’s my age and not my style sense! I love browsing through Kaffe Fassett’s Glorious Interiors and I think he might have something to do with it.

    Great post, thanks for sharing.

MJ, Thank you for subscribing 🙂 I’d love to see your style, I bet it’s fabulous. I do believe the blue and rust are popular for 2017 so it should be easier to find. I’m like you over an hour to any store, I live in the sticks too.

    Hi Dawn,

I think that’s a great transition before Spring colours. I wish my husband didn’t mind saving things to bring out again, I hide things I really don’t want to get rid of for now.

Kris, I get tired of the same old colors so using throw pillows is cheap and gives me a new affordable look.
