$7.48 Porch Swing Makeover
2 shower curtains and 3 hours later a swings transformation.
I love this swing but the original fabric had deteriorated after many years in the elements.
I searched out buying a new cushion, but couldn’t find the right size and hated to pay $80 for something that didn’t fit correctly.
On to plan 2, I headed to the fabric store to buy new outdoor cushion padding and would recover it with drop cloths. Forget that idea it was $22 a yard. Yikes!
On to plan 3, I purchased 2 shower curtains at Target, $7.48 total, and recovered the cushion I already had.
I even used the ready made button holes in the shower curtain to button the back closed, all I had to do is go to my button stash.
The best thing about this swing is it also folds down and makes into a bed, and I have used it that way many times to nap in the afternoons or at night to watch the stars.
Now if it will only warm up here long enough to enjoy it!

Very cute, what a great idea and I love the pattern and color of the shower curtain!
We got up to 72 for a while today, but now a cold front has moved in. I am ready for some warm weather too!
Take care…Jodi
Dawn,
Brilliant idea to use shower curtains! The swing looks so bright and cheery. I especially like the fold out feature. I bet that is wonderful in the evening looking up at the stars.
Also wishing for warm weather here,
Tammy
I love swings! and the pattern that you picked is pretty! good job 🙂
Great idea to use a shower curtain! I love swings and use my in the summer as well.
Enjoy your evening,

So darn clever!!! I would have never thought to use a shower curtain—my mind is thinking now about some wooden lawn furniture to cover 🙂
Thanks for sharing! Turned out too cute!
Fabulous idea! I love the fresh new color too.
I was thinking of doing pillows for my swing and totally going to look at shower curtains now. What a great idea!

So nice. I have an old swing from WalMart that had seen better days. I remade an awning for the top with a huge balloon valance I had found in a thrift shop. It was lined, and made of heavy fabric. I purchased inexpensive cushions for the seats. Good as new, and we keep that one out by the sport court in the North 40. I love that yours makes into a flat bed too. So nice for summer nights!!
wow great transformation… you’ll have so much fun hanging out there!
Dawn that is such an impressive makeover, it looks fab I bet you can’t wait to be sat out on it this summer sipping tea! 🙂

What a clever and frugal idea, plus it will probably hold up well to the weather! We actually hit 81 degrees here yesterday but are dropping fast and will be 30 tonight…it is just crazy!
I love that you used a shower curtain! Your swing looks wonderful and so ready for warm evenings.Take care.

What a great idea!!! I have a swing just like yours that makes a bed and badly need to redo the cushion too. I just never thought of using a shower curtain! I’m thinking it will be more weather resistant! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Dawn!
Found you on The Creative Girl Blog Hop. I was attracted to the title of your blog in hopes of laying my eyes on a beautiful log cabin and guess what–I did! I took the tour of your home through your slideshow and oh my, it is beautiful! My husband and I love the mountains and actually honeymooned in upstate NY in the Adirondacks. We stayed in a fabulous cabin and loved it–one day, we hope to own a cabin 🙂 Your home is so stunning I had to comment and let you know. I would love for you to stop by my blog too if you have the time 🙂

So glad you stopped by and joined the party. Great link-up at my Swing into Spring party.
Great idea! I did something similar when I made over patio furniture but covered them in vinyl tablecloths. Shower curtains probably have WAY cuter options!

I would love a swing that opens like that. I want to be able to nap under my huge trees. I love making things with shower curtains too. I’ve used then in my daughter’s room as a closet “door” then added material to make up the difference.
Thanks for the tutorial.
