Blueberry cottage Cheese Smoothie: High Protein Low Carb

Blueberry Cottage Cheese Smoothie: High Protein Low Carb

For years, I underestimated the power of protein. I focused on carbs for energy and didn’t give much thought to how much protein I was actually consuming. It wasn’t until recently that I started consciously increasing my protein intake, and the results have been remarkable. (I’m like my Mom I’d rather have a big bowl of past with a side of bread rather than a steak anyday).

I’ve experienced significant improvements in my energy levels throughout the day. The afternoon slump? Largely gone! I also find myself feeling fuller for longer, which has naturally helped curb those pesky cravings for unhealthy snacks. It’s been a total game changer. And the best part I’ve lost weight without even trying!!

The Quick Fix: Cottage Cheese Smoothies

Let’s be real, sometimes the last thing I want to do is cook. On those days, when I’m staring blankly into the fridge, a cottage cheese smoothie is my go-to protein boost. It’s quick, easy, and surprisingly delicious. Now, I want to emphasize – this is a last-minute option, not a daily habit. I prefer whole food sources of protein whenever possible. But it’s a lifesaver when time is short!

I try to avoid relying on protein powder unless absolutely necessary, because I much prefer to get my protein from whole foods.

Protein-Packed Blueberry Cottage Cheese Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 unpasteurized whole milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein (collagen) powder (see below for my recommended brand)
  • A few drops of vanilla or maple syrup (optional depending on how sweet the berries are on their own)
  • Ice cubes (as needed) (if you use frozen berries ice will not be needed)

Instructions:

  • 1. Combine all ingredients in a blender.
  • 2. Blend until smooth.
  • 4. Enjoy immediately!

Note on Protein (Collagen) Powder: If you do opt for protein powder, I’ve found that [Equip Foods Grass Fed Collagen Powder | Hydrolyzed Bovine Collagen Peptides with Amino Acids | Prime Beef Collagen for Healthy Joints, Skin & Nails | Non-GMO, Paleo Friendly | 30 Servings, Vanilla] is much gentler on my stomach compared to many other brands. Many protein powders cause bloating for me, but I haven’t experienced that with this one. This may very for you!
