TACO SEASONING: HEALTHY, HOMEMADE, NONE OF THE BAD STUFF
A FAMILY FAVORITE
Have you ever glanced at the long list of ingredients on a packet of taco seasoning, many of which you can’t pronounce or have never encountered? I certainly have, and I wasn’t pleased with what I found. As a result, I created my own recipe packed with healthy herbs and spices, completely free of the undesirable additives. Many of the herbs I use come from my own garden, which makes it easy to whip up a batch with fresh ingredients. Every time I use store-bought taco seasoning, I end up with a terrible headache. However, with my homemade recipe, I experience no headaches, and my family enjoys it even more than the store-bought version. It’s a fantastic addition to any pantry for a quick taco night!
Taco Seasoning Recipe
- 1 T chili powder
- 1½ tsp cumin
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
Combine all ingredients in a container with a secure, airtight lid. For seasoning, use 1 teaspoon per pound of meat, or adjust to your preference for a spicier flavor.
TIP
Multiply all the measurements by 8 to yield a pint-sized mason jar of Taco Seasoning.

Sounds like a great recipe for our tacos..
Jeanie,
I switched to this years ago and our family is happy with it. You don’t have to add water like a packet so the taco meat juice isn’t dripping out of the taco!
