HOW WE ENCLOSED THE UNDERSIDE OF A SECOND STORY DECK TO USE AS AN OUTDOOR TV SPACE. IT’S A GREAT WAY TO RELAX, WATCH A MOVIE WITH THE FAMILY, AND ENJOY THE GREAT OUTDOORS ALL AT THE SAME TIME!
I’m beginning to think our outdoor projects will never end, they just seem to snowball. We complete one and then have a brilliant idea for another so the list continues. Once the concrete patio was finished I started looking at the underside of the deck, and the more I looked the more I thought it looked horrible and needed to be enclosed to give it a finished look.
The bottom portion of the wall, the darker wood, was our existing retainer wall opposite the paver retainer wall. Hubby added it years ago with the leftover 6X6’s we had from the deck built, it served it’s purpose but just wasn’t fitting into the look I was after for the new patio area. My wheels started turning and I suggested hubby enclose the entire wall and hang a big screen tv there where we could watch movies on those nice summer nights. We’ll he was all for it, he likes his tv time, so it didn’t take much coaxing to get the project done.
You can watch the slide show below to see the side last summer we enclosed with lattice, and see the project being completed of adding the wood to the wall this year.
We opted to go with a large tv meant for indoor use, the outdoor one’s start at about $4000 for the size and quality we wanted so that was out of the question. Hubby’s mounting it so it’s easy to move if the weather gets bad. We’d only use it on the weekends so he’s fine with hauling it in and out when we want it and since we already have a large tv to fit the space it seemed silly to spend more money. Especially this year, we’ve already dumped enough cash into the many projects we’ve completed.
It’s to late in the season in our neck of the woods to find and purchase nice recliners for outdoor use, so we’re keeping it on our list of things to find for next spring. We plan on taking a trip south this winter and if we have any luck we may just score a couple when we’re there, if so we’ll be all set with comfy furniture for next years movie watching.
