Cut Flower Arrangement

CutFlowers5

This is a great time of year to display cut flower arrangements.  Most flower gardens are bursting with blooms in August, and mine are no exception.  This particular batch of cut flowers came from the former gardens of our guest home.

We have 2 homes on our property, one is used as our guest house.  It was the first house hubby and I had together before building the log home.  Since it is on the same property there was no way we could sell it without splitting up the acreage and that wan’t something we were willing to do.  So within a month of moving into our new home we tackled a mini renovation of our former home.  It got a fresh coat of paint throughout, new carpet, new vinyl in the kitchen and bath, and several new light fixtures.

Now my parents use it as their summer home.  It is such a treasure to have them close for the summer.  We all take a morning walk together and share a ride when going grocery shopping.  Our closest town is about 40 miles away so we do a lot of rid sharing in my neck of the woods.

I used to have several flower garden when we lived in our first home but when we moved keeping up two yards was just to much work, and out here in the country yards are acres and acres.  So to minimize the work load we made the yard at the guest house much smaller, which meant the flower gardens became part of the field.  It is a beautiful sight in summer with all the flower varieties populating the fields.  They literally are growing like wild flowers.

I thought this batch looked lovely in the galvanized bucket at the end of the kitchen island.  I get the buckets from a friend who lives around the corner from me.  She makes and sells maple syrup and when she is ready to cast off a sap bucket, I am always there eager to get one.

  1. Dawn, that image of the flowers in the galvanized bucket is just beautiful! I’m definitely pinning that one! I did not know that you had a guest house on your property, and I think it’s wonderful that you have a place for your parents to stay when they come to visit!

    1. Thanks for dropping by this morning Jane. Yes, I am thinking I should do some posts on the guest home. It turned into that by accident but has turned out wonderful. I can share so much time with my mom and they are moments I will always treasure. Thanks for sharing the pinning love:)

  2. So very pretty. I live in the piney woods of east Texas and our Queen Anne’s lace, Black-eyed Susans and Purple Coneflower are already spent. Hope for a new burst of bloom in the fall when temperatures will fall below 95 degrees. Today it should be 105!

    1. My hubby loves Texas and want’s to move there. I don’t think I could tolerate that heat. It is in the low 70’s here and that is just perfect for me. We only get one bloom time here in my neck of the woods:) But they are beautiful! Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping in.

Our garden is in full bloom right now and I have cut flowers all over the house.

Have you ever shown your guest house on a post.

    1. I think every room should be filled with flowers if you have them available. May as well enjoy them while there blooming. I have never show our guest home. Not sure why, just have never thought of it. I may have to put that on my list of things to write about:)

    1. It is amazing how and old bucket can look good once you fill it with flowers:)

I am still crushing on your new blog look. I just love your header, labels and buttons and the cute background. I will get mine refreshed some time in the future.

    1. Thank for commenting on the new blog design. It was a lot of work, but worth it. Yes, I love having my parents near. It is just like the good ole’ days when parents and grandparents stayed on the property for the children to take care of. The way life is supposed to be.

  8. The flowers are beautiful and I would love to have a few of those galvanized buckets…perfect for wildflowers (and maple syrup!). I think it’s so wonderful that you can spend summers with your parents when they stay in your guest house. It must be such a treat for all of you!

    XO,
    Jane

    1. Jane, those buckets are a dime a dozen in my neck of the woods, but I think harder to get in other areas. Maybe I should do a giveaway to some lucky bloggers. They are great to decorate with. And yes it is a treasure to have my parents near and healthy.

    1. Thank you Debbie, flowers do seem to have that effect, don’t they?

  9. HI Dawn! Your flowers are so very pretty! I just love your home and your decorating taste. Pretty fancy having a guest house!
Thanks for letting me know about your new address. I guess I was going to the wrong one. When you comment on my blog and I click on your name – it takes me to a page that says ‘ you’re not there!’ so I just type in your address. Blogging can be frustrating! 😉
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

    1. Shelia, Im so glad you caught up with me. Welcome back to the cabin:) No fancy guest house just our former home. LOL

  11. It is amazing how mother nature knows how to put the prettiest colors combinations together.

  12. Perfectly simple and so pretty! I love sap buckets too. How wonderful to have the guest home on your property. We feel blessed to have a guest suite in our basement (my parents former apartment) but I would love to one day have a rural property with a separate small home for guests. Hoping you enjoy your weekend and time with your family.
