ADDING A HINT OF FALL DECORATING TO THE PORCH ENTRANCE
Embracing Fall on the Everyday Porch
Autumn has arrived, at least according to the calendar, but here in Michigan, it’s been a surprising season. We’ve already experienced snow, prompting me to dig out my warm boots and long underwear just to add a few fall decorations to our everyday side porch.
A Cozy, Everyday Porch
Our side porch is the heart of our daily comings and goings. The front door remains mostly unused unless we have unfamiliar visitors. This year, my decorating efforts were minimal but meaningful. I placed an old wicker chair, a garage sale treasure from years ago that only cost me $3. Originally intended as a cozy spot for our cat, it remains unused by our feline friend. However, it does serve as a charming decorative piece.
To add a touch of vintage flair, I adorned the chair with a velvet rust pillow, a delightful thrift find. The color is wonderfully nostalgic, reminiscent of the 1970s hues that filled my childhood home. Adding to the scene is a bittersweet vine, purchased since this year’s wild crop was elusive.
Weather Woes and Their Impact
This summer was peculiar, marked by extreme heat and humidity that seemed to sap the vibrancy from our usual fall foliage. The colors this year have been muted compared to the brilliant displays of past seasons, perhaps an aftermath of the unusual weather patterns.
Practical and Pretty
On the porch, you’ll also find my trusty yellow Croc boots. These have been my go-to footwear for quick trips to the chicken coop or garden. They’re easy to clean, which is a must for me. However, their tight ankle makes them a bit of a struggle to remove. Despite this inconvenience, they add a cheerful splash to the porch’s autumn aesthetic.
Another thrifted gem is the wicker basket, a testament to my love for thrift store finds—a topic I plan to dive into in a future post.
Simple Yet Inviting
This simple porch setup is a testament to how minimal efforts can bring a touch of seasonal charm without overwhelming the space. It feels both welcoming and personal, reflecting the warmth of fall in its own unique way.
