ADDING A NEW AREA RUG TO THE LIVING ROOM AND REARRANGING THE FURNITURE! I’VE HAD THIS RUG FOR A WHILE NOW AND FORGOT WHAT IT EVEN LOOKED LIKE SO IT WAS A SURPRISE ONCE I UNWRAPPED IT!

Several months ago I ordered a new area rug from O.co and once it came it stood in the corner of the entryway for a long time. From there it moved to the corner in the guest room while I waited for the spring muddy season to pass. The rug hung around so long still in its package that I’d forgot what it even looked like. The only thing I could remember was about it is it had a little gray in it.

I got ambitious one day and decided to move all the furniture out of the living room and give the floors a good mopping. This made for the perfect time to pull up the old area rug and put down the new.

The old rug was showing signs of traffic wear and I only paid $39 for it so into the burning barrel it went. There was no saving it to use in another room or even out on the porch it was looking pretty shabby. I do have to admit I thought about keeping it for a while but knew I’d never drag it out again.

I moved the new rug several times trying to decide which direct I liked it best and after coming up with a new furniture arrangement I decided I’d make the rug match the direction of the sofa. I was quite surprised when hubby came home he said he like how the furniture was arranged. Talk about knocking me over with a feather, this coming from the man who NEVER notices anything when it comes to décor.

Did you notice the rug is darker on one end and gets lighter as it reaches the other end? I tried to position the darker area in the traffic zone and the lighter end against the TV wall. I don’t spend a lot of money on area rugs, so if this gets dirty or wears out I’ll just replace it. My family never takes off their shoes so the chances of dirty work boots tramping across it are pretty darn good. I learned long ago it’s easier to replace the rug than complain about shoes walking on it every day.

I’m the same. I don’t require people to take off their shoes AND I have 2 dogs, so I buy inexpensive area rugs and replace them when they get ratty and no longer clean up well. Your rug looks nice – it brightens up the room and I like the couch in front of the window where the checked curtains bring it to life. A good day’s work!!

    Your new rug looks great!

We just replaced our 2 year old jute rug with a similar jute rug. What a difference a fresh new rug makes.

Carol, I was amazed how different the room looked with a rug refresh. It’s a keeper.
