How to Make Fingerless Gloves From an Old Sweater
This is going to be hard to believe but it officially snowed in Michigan Friday so I decided I had better start making myself some fingerless gloves. I love to wear them while I’m working on the computer, my hands are always so cold. I have priced them and not willing to pay $85 for a pair so I decided to make my own. They can be made in less than 20 minutes for under $3. Now that sounds like a much better price, right? I started with a GW, Anne Klein Cashmere sweater, that’s where the $3 came in, and cashmere will last forever and always look nice so I couldn’t go wrong. A few minutes of my time, and I’m a happy camper.
Below are the instructions on how I made the fingerless gloves. You don’t have to be a whiz at the sewing machine to make these, they’re super easy and fast to make. They would make great Christmas gifts, and they’re a little addictive once you start making them it’s hard to stop.
Step #1 – Find an old sweater or grab one from GW.
Step #2 – Cut the sleeves off just above above the elbows.
Step #3 – Turn sleeves inside out and stitch the inside seam according to your arm size. I like mine to fit snug so they stay up. I just slipped them on and eyeballed how tight to make them. There’s no wrong way.
Step #4 – While inside out sew a seam around the raw edge at what is now the top of your gloves, put them on and cut a small slit to accommodate your thumb, stitch by hand the thumb hole.
Now put them on and look super cute. Another way to wear them is scrunched at the wrist. If you have something bulky on this looks great and also fits better than stretching the gloves over a bulky sweater. Great project Dawn! We didn’t get any snow here, but the hubby and I took a walk down by the Detroit River this morning, there was some ice around the dock! I’m sad to say that winter is just around the corner…Have a good week!!

We also had snow Saturday morning, not much but it sure has turned cold around here. We may live in N. California (most people think California has eternal summer) but living in the Sierra’s means cold snowy winters. Since the ski resort provides a lot of winter work around this little town snow is usually welcomed by all, even sun lovers like myself. So I crank up the heat in my little studio cottage and paint away the snowy days. I fingerless gloves, especially cashmere ones sound right up my alley!
Pam I spent 2 winters in California one in Northern, did some skiing, and one in LA I much prefer northern over all that smog and busyness. The gloves would be perfect when painting.

Nancy, hit up your local GW or even your closet. Kids sweaters work too, and you don’t have to take them in they are already a nice skinny size and don’t slide down your arm.

No snow here in Virginia yet, but we are hoping for a snowy winter this year. One or two big snows per season is all we ask. Love the gloves!
