What do you do when your bestie gives you a vintage galvanized chicken feeder? Turn it into an outdoor flower planter to use on the covered porch this summer.
And look, I lucked out she also gave me an old shipping crate to use as a coffee table. Her mom gets them from work and she was nice enough to let me have one. I’m still debating on adding casters to the bottom, but for now it’s working out just as it is.
I headed to the nursery to pick up the plants I wanted to use in the feeder. I knew exactly what I was looking for, it was what I have planted but in white. Well wouldn’t you know it I could only find purple so purple it is.
My summer porch contains purple and white flowers this year. I let price dictate what I purchased, and I’m very happy with my choices. I couldn’t believe the second week of May our local Lowes store was already putting flowers on clearance.
I found that very odd, but was happy to grab the discounted plants. I normally have a budget of $100 per summer for flowers, potting soil, and mulch, and this year I only spent $50 with all the great bargains I found.
By adding the tiny terra cotta pots and candles it sure makes for a nice look in the evening when I’m sitting on the porch reading a book on my iPad. It warms up the feel and I think it looks nice even in the day time without the candles lit.
I’m using the same pillows as I used last summer on the furniture. I can’t believe I’m using them for two seasons in a row, but I’m still in love with the black and tan so why make changes? Maybe I’m feeling a little lazy, who knows.
I’ll be back soon to show you the rest of the purple flowers I’m using on both porches. Have a wonderful Sunday everyone and enjoy the nice weather we’re having.
