SIMPLE FALL TOUCHES USING SUNFLOWERS AND BLACK AND WHITE ACCENTS IN OUR RUSIC LOG HOME!

It’s back, the black and white that is. I just don’t seem to go long without always reverting back to my old stand by of black and white décor. To give it a fall feel I’ve popped a few faux sunflowers blooms here and there calling it good.

My garden’s bursting with real sunflowers that I just adore but bringing them inside makes quite a mess especially in the kitchen. That yellow pollen that falls from them stains whatever it gets on and in the kitchen that’s normally my vintage linens.

Our days here in Michigan are already dark and dreary a sure sign fall is here. Even the leaves on the trees are quickly changing. As the sunflower blooms get spent I’ve been harvesting their once sunny faces and saving the seeds. Some have already been mailed to friend and family and I’ll keep the rest to plant for myself next year.

My DIL to be is going to plant them also and use them for their wedding next fall. What I do is cut the head off and place it into a large brown paper bag. Let them dry out for quite some time, normally until I get around to checking on them again, give them a good shake, and separate the seed from everything else. Then I package them up into my printable seed packets and keep them to plant next spring.

This year I’ve mixed all the sunflower seeds together rather than separate them by bloom color. I figured I plant them all I the same area and mix the seeds when I plant them anyway so why waste the time in the first place.

I sure didn’t go overboard, insert laugh here, with my fall kitchen decorating. Plop a few flowers in a vase and call it good type of decorating. And you know what? I’m totally happy with what little I did do. The pop of cheery yellow makes me smile.

I think the simplicity of your fall decor is just right. We all need to make things easier on ourselves – which is my mantra for the upcoming year. Even being retired, I could do with less of other people’s expectations.
Pat, I love your way of thinking!
Love the sun flowers, Dawn and thanks for the tip of putting them in a brown paper bag!! I am loving the warm weather we are still getting in Michigan for a few more days!!
Jeanie, I can’t believe how warm it was outside today. I scrubbed the siding on my chicken coop to get it prepped for paint. Then it got to hot and muggy to do it so now Im waiting for it to cool down again.
Black, white and wood are a beautiful combination.
Carol I agree anything in black and white always turns my head.
Dawn, I am loving your kitchen counter tops. What type are they?
Really enjoy your site. Thanks for the inspiration 😊
Brenda they are concrete in black.
