HOW TO CREATE SPRING PLANTERS WITHOUT PURCHASING SOIL OR PLANTERS

Do you head to the local greenhouse and see all the beautiful blooms just to be overwhelmed with buyings pots and dirt to put them in? Well I have an easy way to avoid all that. All you need to do is bring these items home and add them just as they are to your deck, porch, or outdoor space.

This area is our second story deck that’s attached to our dining room. We never use the space other than to grill. I enjoy our front covered porch instead. I still like the spot to look nice but I don’t want to put much thought or effort into it so the solution I’ve come up with is to grow or purchase one large hanging basket, cut off the hanging portion and place it in a plant stand or plop it on a small table between two chairs for a pop of color. No new pot, no bags of dirt, no fuss!

Another easy trick I use is to haul my houseplants outside for the season. In this case I brought out my potted lime tree. It enjoys the full sun and the rain and I don’t have to care for it all summer long.

Another easy way it to use whatever you have as a container to keep those plastic black pots from tipping over and blowing around. Here I used an old wooden tool box that hubby brought home from a project. Look around your place I know you’ll have something to use, a vintage pyrex bowl, a wicker basket, a metal pail, anything will work. All you need is enough space to add the nursery pots too. Remember we are making it simple here. I do recommend watering them once a day in this situation, they will dry out quickly in the heat of summer.

If it’s easy I’m all for it. It’s to much working carrying heavy pots and heavy bags of dirt through the house and onto the deck. I can make it look presentable without much effort. The only thing I do have potted up is my mint, in the two black pots. I use it to make tea everyday and it’s easy to just open the french doors off the kitchen and grab what I need. They also come back every year so it was a one time planting.

So don’t be intimidated with the big selection at the greenhouse, buy anything that’s simple to care for a fits in the space you are trying to fill and no need to buy additional supplies. Make it easy on yourself and I think you’ll find you enjoy it more and will be happy with the results.
