Radishes | The First Vegetable Ready In The Garden
HAPPY DAY! THE FIRST VEGETABLE THAT’S READY IN OUR GARDEN IS RADISHES. IT’S ONE OF HUBBY’S FAVORITES. I PLANTED THEM IN A CONTAINER ON OUR PORCH MAKING THEM EASY TO HARVEST FOR SALADS OR TO HAVE WITH VEGETABLE DIP!
The radishes are ready! I haven’t planted radishes in years but decided to give them a go again this year. I have several pots, wooden boxes, and galvanized buckets that I plant with flower every year and place on our porch steps. This year I decided to be smarter with my planting and cut down on my flower budget by planting edibles in the majority of my containers. Radishes are something I plant from seed, and are super easy to grow, they never fail.
I planted two small rows in this Jasper Farms container from Tractor Supply. It’s just enough room to keep us stocked with a few radishes for salads or hubby dips them in vegetable dip. I have roasted them before and for some reason to me they taste like dirt once they’ve been roasted so I stick to eating them raw.
I love how pretty they are straight from the garden so bright and fresh looking. Normally when I buy them in the store they look dried out and cracked. They sure don’t look like that when there home grown and to me food always tastes better when I grow it myself. If you’d like to see a walk through video of our garden head over to my Facebook page to have a look-see.
The variety I planted this years called Cherry Giant Radishes. I think I picked them just for their name, lol. I happened to pop over to Pinterest to see how others are preparing radishes and couldn’t believe how creative people are. Everything from chips to slaw. If you grow radishes what’s your favorite way of eating them?
