Winter Centerpiece Using a Variety of Pine Cones, Boxwood Clippings, Deer Antlers, Wood Slices and Faux White BerriesChristmas dinner is over and it was time to freshen up the table with something new to carry it through the winter months. Before I put away all the Christmas items I grabbed a few things that remind me of winter yet didn’t look to Christmassy.

Winter Centerpiece Using a Variety of Pine Cones, Boxwood Clippings, Deer Antlers, Wood Slices and Faux White BerriesAll the pine clippings I used from our trees were getting pretty dried out as well was the tree. I was no longer calling it a Christmas tree I referred to it as a fire starter. I was afraid to keep the lights on for fear of burning the place down.

Winter Centerpiece Using a Variety of Pine Cones, Boxwood Clippings, Deer Antlers, Wood Slices and Faux White Berries Lesson learned, don’t purchase a precut tree. So in my haste to rid the cabin of the kindling I decided to recycle a few things for a centerpiece.

Winter Centerpiece Using a Variety of Pine Cones, Boxwood Clippings, Deer Antlers, Wood Slices and Faux White BerriesI salvaged the pine cones, wood slices, and faux white berries and added deer antlers, boxwood clippings, and a faux bird to one of my large white casserole dishes. Voila’ a new winters centerpiece.

Winter Centerpiece Using a Variety of Pine Cones, Boxwood Clippings, Deer Antlers, Wood Slices and Faux White BerriesSince the tree had to go this small arrangement will still look festive for a while yet not scream Christmas. It’s always sad to see the tree go but I really had no choice, I couldn’t risk keeping it in it’s dried out condition. No amount of water was going to revive that baby, so into the compost heap it goes.

Winter Centerpiece Using a Variety of Pine Cones, Boxwood Clippings, Deer Antlers, Wood Slices and Faux White BerriesNext year I will make sure and do what I normally do, cut down our own tree. I like the tradition anyway but this year I was out of options. Has anyone else started undecorating yet?

I’m still using my pine cones, too. Perfect for winter.

Kim I love my pine cones, I store the big ones from year to year but gather new smaller ones every year.

Love the centerpiece! Great idea to re-use the pine cones. We took down all our Christmas decorations yesterday. You were actually my inspiration to un-decorate early. I remember a post of yours that said you started taking stuff down on Christmas and I loved the idea of removing everything early. Once Christmas is over, I need it to be entirely gone (otherwise it gets depressing for me looking at the decor and knowing the holiday has passed). Not to mention all the decor is a reminder of the work I have to do to put it away. So once all the family was gone yesterday, we started taking it all down and I feel soooo good about it! Thanks for inspiring me to not feel pressured to leave it up longer. 🙂

Jennifer good for you, getting it all done. I always feel like it starts collecting too much dust and it no longer looks sparkly and festive, it looks cluttery. I was ready for something new and fresh again.

I understand why you need to get rid of the tree. Your home looks very woodsy and wintery. I’m putting up the Christmas decor today, actually going through and editing too. Again.
Hope your Christmas was delightful and delicious, Kathleen in Az

Kathleen I was able to throw away those horrible lights so I made room in a tote for a few things I purchased this year. I hate to collect to many things so I limit myself if something new comes in something old has to go but I will need new lights for next year.

    Pretty repurposing of the tree!

I ended up taking my decorations today. Love to put them up, and love to take them down. 🙂

    Have a great day.

Your centerpiece is lovely. We have not had winter here for the last few years, but this year has all the makings of a cold rainy winter so I might just need to go out and find some pinecones.
