Decorating with Wildflowers

Decorating With Wildflowers | Summer Porch | Creative Cain CabinOur fields are littered with wildflowers this time of year and it makes it so convenient to have blooms to decorate with. As hubby and I drove up the driveway I noticed the Wild Bee Balm was blooming, so you guessed it I rummaged through my purse and found my garden nippers and did a little flower cutting. I love the lavender color agains all the tall green grass and while I was cutting the smell of licorice filled the air. Wild bee balm gives off that smell when brushed up against.

Wild Bee Balm | Cabinet Pulls | Creative Cain Cabin I thought the arrangement looked best on the porch, so I will have to spend some time out there swinging and enjoy it. Some of the flowers last longer than others and bee balm is one with a short cut life. I normally get about 3 days out of it before the delicate purple petals start to fall.

  2. We have wild asters and mullein and all sorts of things blooming around here. But we don’t have wild bee balm! I’m jealous.

I have lots of prairie plants in the garden including bee balm, culver root, iron weed, Queen Anne’s lace , swamp milk weed and a special place I’ve found to gather some bittersweet in the fall. We always have tons of fresh flowers all around the house , then I dry them for winter bouquets. Love your web site!!

    1. Kim, I have never heard of iron weed or culver root, I will have to look those up. The wild Queen Annes’ lace should be blooming here soon. I love that our fields always have something blooming to cut bouquets from.
