Dining Table Swap For Fall
CAN YOU BELIVE IT’S SEPTEMBER ALL READY? HERE IN MICHIGAN THE LEAVES ON THE TREES ARE CHANGING AND THE TEMPERATURES ARD DROPPING QUICKLY. IT PUT ME IN THE MOOD TO DO A LITTLE FALL DECORATING IN THE DINING ROOM AND IT ALL CENTERED AROUND SWAPPING OUT THE TABLE!

Today it’s all part of the Cozy Living Series hosted by my friend JENNIFER along with several other bloggers. Make sure and click on the thumbnails below to see what everyone else is sharing this month.

For several months Iโve wanted to put our current dining room table in the office and bring the round dining table from our guesthouse into the Cabin. Our rectangle farmhouse style table is an old library table rescued from a local auction of a school closing its doors. My hubby waited patiently all day for the auctioneer to come to them and he snagged the table and 8 chairs for $200.
I must say itโs one heck of a buy, everythingโs solid oak, heavy, and well constructed. You know the type when furniture back in the day was made to be quality pieces!

Well for those of you who donโt know hubby and I have owned an environmental company for nearly 30 years and I have the pleasure of being the office manager. I donโt say that in a good way either. Thereโs nothing I hate more than sitting at a computer all day doing business stuff. I say it stifles my creativity and itโs just not who I am but you know how that goes. When you own the place itโs what you do!

Any way I happened to mention to hubby that Iโd like a much bigger desk in the office and asked if heโd mind moving the dining room/library table into the office. I waited, and waited, and asked again. Well it didnโt happen so I called my bestie and asked her to come help me move the beast.

Weโre partners in crime and always up for an adventure so she said sure sheโd be right over. I should have just done that in the first place (insert eye roll here)! We tackled the chore and struggled it into the office without incident. Hubby came home that night and asked what the dining table was doing in the office. I said Iโm using it as my desk do you not remember me asking you to move it several times? He said it sounded familiar but he wasnโt quite sure. Are you kidding me? Iโve been waiting all this time and you werenโt even paying attention to what I said. Hmm!

I figured as long as the table was out of the dining room it was my time to add an area rug. So for several days there sat an area rug, 4 chairs, and a centerpiece; but no table. Iโm getting smarter now mind you and asked two of our employees to gather up the round dining table from the guesthouse and bring it to the cabin. Wow that worked so much better than asking hubby, lol.

The dining room is a spot we NEVER use. I truly regret even adding one when we built. We all use the kitchen island for eating and hubby and I are seldom even on the same schedule so many times I just stand up in the kitchen and grab a quick bite to eat. My plan is to find two comfy chairs maybe upholstered wingbacks to use around the dining table and take the 4 wooden chairs out completely.

I though adding a warm cozy chair may entice me to sit there in the morning while doing my Bible study and enjoy the view looking over our pond and surrounding farmland. If you have any ideas on what kind of comfy chairs would look best leave your thoughts in the comment section below please and donโt forget to click on the thumbnails below.

Oh gosh, this made me laugh Dawn! I can totally picture this happening with my hubs too. I think this looks so cozy with the round table and I love your idea of adding two comfy chairs!
Kristi, What’s with me do they not listen to us?
Now that the kids are grown we never use the dining room either! It’s become a dumping spot for me, which is unfortunate since it sits squarely in the middle of the house!
I love your super cozy cabin and the round table looks perfect and fresh!

Linda, Our dumping ground is the entryway bench and I hate how it always looks.
I love how the round table looks in here and I think comfy arm chairs would be perfect around it. So inviting to sit with a cup of coffee.
Danielle, now to find the perfect chairs.
Would love to see the round table without the table cloth on it…
Jeanie, your not the only one who said that. Here’s why it has a table cloth. It’s a oak table stained in a honey tone and it clashes terribly with our log color, hence the big cover up, lol.
I really like the round table rather than the rectangle. It adds a different look from all the square edges, but I would like to see it without the tablecloth. Also, you have the perfect home and decor to use a round braided rug under it – and I rather like the simple design of the chairs with it, but you should do whatever YOU like.
Also, if you want a place to relax with your bible studies or whatever, since you and your husband never use the table, you could consider doing away with any table and chairs completely, and make the area into a relaxing spot with an especially comfy overstuffed chair, an ottoman for your feet, a pretty rug and a side table to hold a lamp, your book and your drink of choice.
Just because it started out as a dining area doesn’t mean it has to stay a dining area. We all need to make our homes more about what we use or need and less about how it “looks.”
Pat, I thought about doing aways with the table all together like you’ve suggested. I don’t know why I feel it has to stay a dining room just because it was designed for it. I’m not to fond of the color of the table without the tablecloth. It’s oak and it’s stained a honey color that really clashes with our log color. I’d love to paint it buy hubby and son had a fit when I mentioned it. I don’t know why men are so against painted wood.
And I don’t know why men think they have the final vote.
Pat, LOL they have a thing with wood and don’t like it to be painted that’s for sure.
Our hubbies are two peas in a pod! That sounds identical to some of our conversations. Too funny! I like the round table (and you were lucky to find the rectangle one with chairs at such a steal!). I also love your touches of green in the kitchen. Very pretty!
Jennifer do they not listen to us or what?
I’m absolutely head over hills for your home and fall dining table! Love the cheerful tones in different corners of the room as well as its breathtaking vintage vibe. And that chandelier is so dreamy. You’re very creative and I love your unique home decor style.
Katrina, Thank you for such a kind comment and you’re very observant to see all the tidbits in every corner ๐
What a difference just a few small changes can make! Love it!
Doreen Im liking having a bigger desk in the office so this is working in the dining room for now.
