SEALED GLASS CONTAINER HERB AND SPICE ORGANIZATION. PURCHASE ONCE AND QUIT BUYING PLASTIC BOTTLES AND REFILL YOUR OWN!
Normally I’ve shared with you all of my organization posts in the month of January. That’s when we all get the bug to de-clutter and get things back in order again. Somehow I’ve been so busy sharing other things that this little project got overlooked.
I don’t mind cooking and baking and I see the need to have the right herbs and spices on hand. My mom for instance would use what she had and if a recipe called for something she didn’t’ have she’d omit it. That’s not me I like to have everything the recipe calls for and I make a home cooked meal every night for my family.
It’s a small expense in the beginning to purchase all the glass storage bottles but now that I have them I’ll never need to replace them. With wanting to eliminate anything that came in plastic, I wanted everything in clear glass, and everything uniform sizes.
These small spice jars were found on Amazon and their just perfect for storing normal size spices, like the ones you get in the grocery store. I also have a few items I use all the time and need a much bigger quantity on had so I went with these jars for those.
The idea of just refilling my little spice jars when they get empty is much more appealing to me. Online spice ordering can come in zipper bags or if you go to a whole food store you can buy by the pound and bring your own jar. I also like the idea of things not going bad or getting stale. They get used up quicker in smaller quantities.
At first I stored them in my pantry just randomly, more by how pretty the color flow was but I quickly figured out if I was ever to find anything quickly the spices needed to be in alphabetical order. I put a post up on IG and everyone’s vote was to alphabetize them. I’m just wondering how I got along all those years without doing it this way? You’ll be glad to know I’m all organized now, LOL.
I took all the plastic before bottles to the recycle center and I plan on never going back to them. I use a Sharpie to write it’s contents but if you’d prefer you could print or buy pretty labels. I just like the ability to run these through the dishwasher when they’re empty and re-label them when I need to. I used the same method on my baking cupboard jars.
It’s so nice to have my kitchen all back in order again. It’s a task I tackle once a year and it always feels good to have it nice and pretty again. Sometimes I just go into the kitchen and open a drawer just to admire how neat and organized it is. Call me crazy but it makes my heart happy!
