Do you have a compost bin? Is it as cute as this one? I have to admit I’m a hard-core composter and have been for as long as I can remember. Who wouldn’t want to save all those scraps and turn them into rich organic material if we all had a countertop compost bin that looks as nice as this one?

I found this at Aldi of all places. Hubby and I stopped in to pick up a case of crushed tomatoes and I happened to spot a garden isle with all kinds of goodies in it. Hubby said we didn’t need to go down that isle but I gave him the look of are you kidding me. Can’t you see all that good stuff down there? All I wanted to do was browse as I walked the isle.

All of a sudden I spotted this compost bin and it was only $9 so of course I had to have it. My old compost bin consisted of an old mixing bowl that sits down inside the sink. Every day we fill it with our scraps and every night I take it out to the big compost bin behind the chicken coop. Now our scraps are going to look much nicer being kept in this new composter.

I’ve managed to get our garbage down to nothing over the years. We recycle everything we can, burn the documents with important information on them, compost all our food scraps, and donate clothing and reusable items to our local Hospice store.

We do have a large 5 yard dumpster on our property but it is used for our business so if we ever have anything that doesn’t fall into one of the previous categories I can send it off to the landfill. I hate doing that but every once in a while I have no choice.

I also picked up the blooming tulips at Aldi. No one had been in to buy them before Easter with all that’s going on so they had them marked down to .99 cents per container. I grabbed two pots and after the blooms fade I’ll plant them into the ground around the chicken coop. I’ve just stated landscaping that area and they’ll be  a nice surprise again next spring.

I did find similar compost bins on Amazon if you don’t find one at Aldi.

TO MY REGULAR READERS: ANYTHING YOU SEE IN THE GREEN BOXES WILL BE MY DAILY UPDATE DURING THE VIRUS! Please leave a comment and fill me in on what you’re doing. God Bless you all!

Sunday April 19: Wow I had a very productive day. Two loads of laundry on the line. I moved around some area rugs for the front porch, vacuumed them, and stapled them down so the wind won’t blow them away. Then I moved the teak table and chairs from the back patio to the front porch and spray painted my vintage laundry cart. I dug up the daffodil bulbs from the guesthouse and replanted them near the chicken coop and gave some to my son and DIL for their new house.

I made an easy dinner of hot wings and a kale salad. I love it when I get so much done. Having the sun shining and warmer temps sure motivates me.

Monday April 20: Another nice but breezy day. Yes, another 2 loads of laundry on the line and a batch of hardboiled eggs in the Instant Pot for lunch. For some reason egg salad sandwiches always sound good once the weather starts to warm up.  Then for dinner I made homemade meatballs with my secret sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans.

I did finish swapping furniture around outdoors. We have a covered front porch, a covered side porch, a big fire pit patio area, and a wrap around back porch on the second story. So with that being said I hauled furniture from spot to spot and gave all area a fresh new look.

Tuesday April 21: We had a very windy overnight and notice a power pole snapped in half when we got up so hubby reported it. I worked like crazy getting laundry done, the vacuuming, and filled a few pots with water knowing the power will go out soon.

I’m hoping once they turn the power off to fix the pole it comes back on quickly. Wouldn’t you know it I have dinner in the crockpot today? I guess if I have to I’ll transfer to the gas oven. I’m making a spicy beef sandwich for dinner. I take a roast and add a jar of pepperocinis, let it cook in the crockpot on low all day long and serve it over a crusty bun with Swiss cheese.
