Tips and Tricks for Organizing Under a Kitchen Sink on a Budget

Under Sink Organization AfterI’m obsessed with the tv show “Hoarders”, is anyone else? Anyway every time I watch an episode it makes we want to clean and organize. I have a few areas that have to be done at least once a year because they just seem to get out of control faster than other areas of my home. Under the kitchen sink and my pantry are two of the main places that need a decluttering more often.

Under Kitchen Sink BeforeIt wan’t terribly out of control but you can definitely see it was in need of a good decluttering. I took everything out, threw away what I didn’t use. Let’s face it why keep cleaning products that don’t work or that you never use. So away they went and then I vacuumed inside the cupboard to get any dust out of it. Where I come from we still using burning barrels, so my burnable container is under the sink and it seems like stray papers sometimes miss the basket and end up behind it.

Tips and Tricks for Organizing Under a Kitchen Sink on a Budget I recommend this to everyone, add a boot tray under the sink drain. If there’s ever a small leak the tray will catch it before it does any damage to the cupboard or the floor underneath. It’s such an inexpensive precaution that I’ve used for years.

I’d love to do it for a living, if people would actually pay for such a thing. I don’t think I could do it in one of those “Hoarders” homes though. The smell would get to me I’m afraid, lol.

  1. There is a twisted wire you can obtain at the hardware store . Install a second row in the back for additional storage of spray items you don’t use often but need . This is another great idea love the mat will save time & money.

    1. Gaeyl, thank you for the tip. I love having things organized ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. It looks so nice, Dawn! We, too, have a burning barrel that is used for the paper products, which we put in a wastebasket. Our trash goes in the undersink bin since we don’t have a garbage disposal. So I’m just wondering if maybe you don’t use wastebaskets for paper? And where do you put your trash/food scraps? I use a flat, ribbed vinyl full coverage mat instead of a boot tray on the bottom, but the boot tray is clever, also.

    1. Susan, in my island there is a pull out with a large 13 gallon capacity plastic bin for garbage, and another for returnable pop cans (we have a deposit on them here). I put all the food scraps in the compost bin, and the recycle bins are in the pantry. Wow that makes it seem like we have a lot of garbage in this house, LOL>

      1. sound like a wonderful set-up to me!
