DECORATING WITH FRENCH BLUE FOR SPIRNG. ALL INSPIRED BY BUFFALO CHECK FABRIC THAT I’VE HAD IN MY STASH FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS!
Warning: Heavy photo post! Okay, so it’s Spring and I was in the mood to change things up a little in the cabin and I also didn’t want to spend much money. After rummaging through my stuff I came across the French Blue and White buffalo check fabric that I’ve had for almost two years.
Its intended use was to make curtains with, so that’s exactly what I did. I had 10 yards of and it was the perfect amount to make 3 curtain panels with and I had just enough left over to make a runner or a kitchen curtain with (so far I’m undecided).
My favorite part about using checked fabric with curtains is there’s always an easy cut line to follow. Just follow along with the pattern, hem the top and the bottom, and hang with curtain clips. The whole project took under an hour from sewing to having them up.
These curtains inspired my entire room. After getting them up I went to my pillow stash and looked for anything with the same or close French Blue. Lucky me, I found two that would work and I purchased the floral one. I figured it had the same green in it as my kitchen island so I’d use it again.
To bring the color into the kitchen I put my French Blue enamelware bowl on the island to keep fruit in and I mixed blue canning jar in with the green on my open farmhouse shelves in the dining room. I’m quite happy with the changes and the entire look only cost me $15, which was the cost of the one pillow I picked up.
A new area rug was purchased for the living room too, but we dog sat for a friend and I didn’t want to have that in place until the pooch went home. You’ll have to stop back by and see how it looks once I get it down. The one that’s currently there’s getting pretty grubby looking so it’s getting tossed.
French Blue was added to the guest bedroom as well but I haven’t had a chance to photograph that room yet. It’s also my office so sometimes it’s not photo worthy. My desk has papers for the business scattered all around waiting for me to address them, and get them in their proper place. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has one of those places that seems to be the dumping ground in the house.
It’s supposed to rain several days this week, the grass is greening up, and I bet I’ll be mowing within the next two weeks. So folks I think its official spring here and lawn care and garden chores will need to be added to my list of things to do. Thanks for stopping by today, and come back soon to see the new area rug in this space.
Eye catching new look…I’ll bet your men noticed too.
Love the addition of French Blue!
Happy Spring/Winter/Spring etc!!

Very nicely done, Dawn! Love how easy it is to change the entire look of a room by doing accent accessories! happy Easter!
I wish that I lived in a log cabin like you do! It would make it so easy to change things up. I would love to be able to do that. Your home looks so nice when you do this 😊
Anita, we’re going to sell it next spring so it can be yours. I’m sorta looking forward to painted walls again, even though I hate to paint.
